  1. The groves are to allow air flow to prevent the show side from drying more than the back is what I’ve been told. If the jamb is nailed tight no air would get to the back side. Not that much air is probably moving behind the jamb. A lot of hardwoods floors come the same way.

That is a load of wood! What for pallets are they making with that thick of stock?
  3. I think one beefier tenon would cause less room to make a mistake. Doing two smaller ones doubles your chance of a small error taking place.
  4. The chalkboard paint works pretty well. We had a section of our old home kitchen wall that was painted that way.
  5. Very nice. I’m sure your dad is proud that you built it for him. Thoughts and prayers for you during this difficult time.
  6. Wow that turned out excellent ! Nice job on the scribe......really a nice contrast with the paint and walnut!
  7. I agree with liking to check with a caliper when its coming out of the planer, but it’s using a caliper before you take to much off ? They just fold right up when not using the machine?
  8. Might as well get the digital gauge as long as your ordering ?
  9. Its funny you mention these as they have been in my amazon cart for some time. Curious to see how they work out for you.
  10. Great idea to put some storage there, I know my area behind the saw fence is just a catch all for stuff.
  11. It is quite incredible! Amazing how fast the land changes. One side of the road it’s prairie grass and this is on the other. Pictures don’t do it Any justice at all.
  12. Great point! I think painted projects have to be better fit than clear, any little gap leaves a dip in the paint! Auto body bondo works great for filling them. I absolutely hate building painted projects, it stems from my days in the cabinet shop, thank god I took on a different profession before the paint craze hit around here. Great looking table! Really like the bead detail. Sets it off!
  13. Kevs shirt made it to the badlands national park in South Dakota today! What a cool place, feels like you are on a different planet.

@Spanky just out of curiosity how’s much would that white oak be worth?
  15. Measure twice and probably cut 4 times. You got this!
  16. I think any material for the tenons will work just fine. As long as they are a good fit. The dowels would be a nice visual!!
  17. Yeah it’s in pretty good shape! Was pretty dirty when I got it. Orange degreaser in a little spray bottle along with a rag got it shined right up. Put some drawer liners in and got the cabinet cleaned out of the miter saw stand.
  18. Here are some pictures of the finds. Did clean up the tool box quickly with some degreaser.
  19. I like the very first layout the best. Just looks the most natural proportions to me. I also don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. I say use up the walnut! This is a project that you will be sitting an staring at 15 min a day for a long time to come.
  20. It was through proxibid I believe. That is a site that auction houses use to host the auction. I have done internet searches and found a few. I have to admit I like the online better than spending a whole day at an auction. The local newspapers also list auctions around here. A buddy of mine actually sent me the link to this last one.
  21. Yeah that would rule out the router table. On the table build I used a Freud 1/2 straight bit and a Bosch plunge with a single sided guide. Kev is right that the bars are long enough for a double side. Bet a piece of scrap with some well positioned holes and a threaded hole for a thumb screw would work as well if you don’t want to pay for the second fence.
  22. With local auction houses going to online only around here it’s makes finding deals a little harder. I did have a little luck at one last week. Picked up a graco triton 308 sprayer for $45. Needs some new lines but other than that should work. Also got a Bosch hammer drill, corded for $16. Will come in handy if i ever get around to the deck project. Picked up a craftsman rolling tool box for $65. Smaller box that should hold my needs. Got a bonus with it, was full of 9/16 wrenches 6 of them i believe and a roll of metric wrenches. Will get some pictures up soon.
