I see what you are saying with the depth stop. Went to rikons website and read the manual. Coulda saved a lot of questions if I went there first! I do like the machine and basically have it down to the rikon or the baileigh. The rikon comes with a full set of chisels vs 1 with the baileigh. Plus can get free shipping on the rikon. Amazon has the best deal on the rikon for $404 any concerns buying it from amazon vs say acme tools?

Awesome! How about the depth stop? Can’t seem to find any info about it. Also than you for your answer....in no description did it say if it came with them or not.

Quick question for you guys with this machine......am seriously considering one for myself as I have a lot of m&t joints coming up and my old machine I don’t feel is accurate enough. Did the rikon come with a chisel set?
  4. yes the cutters for the shaper add up quick. I picked up mine used for $500 so couldn’t really pass on it. Did you ever think of adding a power feeder to your router table?
  5. Shapers don’t take up much room, heck could replace your router table with one. Get the right spindle for router bits and they are basically the same. Just a pain to change spindles out.
  6. So I showed my wife kevs wife’s quilt shop. Now Courtney thinks she needs half my shop. Thank @Kev
  7. Only took me one time to learn to keep my fingers back from the nail gun. Some situation that the nail followed the grain and came back and got me. Glad your alright bud!
  8. I really like the look of that! That subtle curve will add quite a bit of interest. Good idea on making it all one piece, dont believe I've ever seen anything done like that.
  9. When we did painted projects back at the cabinet shop we started using poplar and found it to be a little to fuzzy. Ended up using maple after the first few projects. Would switch between hard and soft maple. I’d much rather work with soft maple, just machines a lot easier than hard. Did use birch on a few as well. Just depended on price and what was available.
  10. That is spendy! Hopefully it is all you expect. I like the idea of spending bigger money on a sized tool that you use most often. Did hear that when it comes to chisels.....buy a really nice 1/4 or 1/2” and can get buy with a less expensive complete set. Glad you found time in the shop! What is the project you have going?
  11. I agree with @Tmize do the rabbit after the glue up. The stop rabbit would be a pain and being as far as you are on the door would hate to see a little slip make a big mess. Door looks awesome!

    Two Boxes

Excellent craftsmanship! Joints look absolutely perfect!
  13. Mortises look good coop! Having the back story on lumber just adds to the project. Excited to see how perfect they line up!
  14. Boy that pile must be getting small if you had to do a glue up! ?
  15. Yes same thing here. Lumber yard owner was saying that most of the lumber in our area comes from northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan with some also coming from Canada. With the boarder being shut has slowed some of the imports. The states mentioned also shut everything down with Covid so the mills are way behind. Even local hardwood prices here have really gone up. I recently priced some 5/4 quartersawn white oak for a table that I got asked to build. Was that an eye opening price of $9 a bf. Usually would get it for around $5-6. Hopefully prices will come back down soon.
  16. Local lumber yard owner was at my neighbors place today dropping off some things. We were all talking about the wood shortage around here. He mentioned one of his suppliers sent out an email last night around 10pm that they had found 3 semi loads of 7/16 cdx 2nds. Which the 2nds means that the thickness may very some. Their price on it was $36 a sheet. He said he responded to the email at 5am wanting 2 bundles of it and it was already gone. I asked him about a 2x4 stud and he said he has none and if he did they would be around $8 each.
  17. I think with having glass panels the 8” bottom is perfect. Any shorter and the odds if putting a foot through the glass goes up.
  18. Will the top case be all solid hardwood or do you have a source for mahogany ply?
  19. I have a pile of it on hand! Can I leave the green paint on the edges for a more natural look?
  20. @Kev gonna have to figure out a new angle for the camera! ? Do you typically change grits when using? Reason I ask is I usually leave 150 grit in mine and use it mostly for sanding edges of boards, an example being face frame parts before I put them together. I find it a pain to switch grits all the time. Would love to find a used 37” double drum.
  21. That is a great idea @Chet @Kev I’ve seen quite a few of your videos and don’t ever recall seeing you use your drum sander. I realize this is a shop project but when you mentioned that you milled the material before filming just curious if your drum sander ever comes into plan when milling?
  22. Beautiful piece! Did the walnut bead molding make fitting the drawers a real challenge?
  23. That’s the same rule in my shop! It’s funny I’ve only had to say it to one neighbor and now all the guys know. Same thing....musta said it firm enough that the point was made. ?
