  1. Grizzly called me up today checking in, told them that the new saw was working well. I asked if they knew what was wrong with the old saw and they didn’t have an answer. I did ask about compensation that they mentioned in the email and the guy I was talking to did look into it but nothing has been determined. They are supposed to be calling me back in the next couple days. Have to say I was pretty happy about them calling and checking in.
  2. Thanks! Yes it is really awesome that I can get access to it. They do charge me some but it’s worth every penny. I think with the sander it’s $2.50 a min, but the amount you can get done in one minute would take a hour by hand.
  3. Great idea! Really has me thinking on what I could mount to my door!
  4. Got back to work on the table over the weekend. I took the table top boards to a guys place who just got a new 20” grizzly spiral head planer. Did a really nice job on the planks. The boards started out around 2 3/16” thick and by time we got the cupping out they were down to 1 15/16”. Did some cutting and jointing to get the top ready for gluing. Struggled with the boards to get a really good joint. They were just so big and heavy that made it tricky. Got the 3 boards ready to glue and decided to do it in 2 glue ups. Did put biscuits in for alignment. First glue up went well....used a elmers waterproof glue that I don’t think I will ever use again. It seemed gritty and I felt like I really loaded the joint up with a lot of glue. Once I clamped it I got very little squeeze out. Let it sit in the clamps for about 2-3 hours and went on to the 3rd board. Was by myself gluing it up. Wish I would’ve had some help! The pipe clamps I have weren’t all long enough to get across the table, so I hook them together to clamp the joint. With doing it myself and with the hooking of clamps I couldn’t hold them to clamp on the bottom and top. With all the clamps on the top it actually pulled open the glue joint from the first gluing. I have never had anything like that happen to me before. Was really disappointed in the results. I let the table sit overnight clamped and then ripped the first glue line out. Used tight bond for the new joint. Went together pretty well. I did have some help getting the clamps in place on it. With the fresh end cuts it did expose some more of the shake that is in this log. Quite a bit of end checking that is getting pretty frustrating to work with. Have decided that with all the cracks and checking that breadboard ends will be going on. Not just for looks in this case but will be structural. Took the top to the cabinet shop that I worked at to have the top sanded. Talked to the owners son who was just a little shit that ran around the shop when I worked there. Boy has he come a long ways! He is a wiz with the Cnc router and the molder. He recommended putting the top on the router to get it perfectly flat before running through the sander. The kid works with a ton of solid slabs and that is how he likes to handle them. So on the cnc it went. In 10 min the top was flat. From there we went to the 3 head wide belt sander. Can really see the markings from the cnc. Bit musta been 3” wide. Got the top back home and trimmed the ends with a straight edge and a circular saw. Went back over them with a straight bit and the router to make sure they were square. Worked really well! Added a little piece of scrap to the edge to prevent blowout. Also got the breadboard ends milled up.
  5. If you put padding on it, might not be a bad spot to catch a little cat nap. Just tell the wife and kids your going to work out, surely they will leave ya alone.
  6. Well the saw showed up yesterday, got it home and put the base together. Made a quick little mobile base for it. Got the rest of it assembled tonight, what a difference! Very minimal vibration and super easy to track the blade. It’s like a totally different saw! ?. I can now understand way you guys recommended it so highly. Thank you for all your input. Have not been told what was wrong with the old saw. Am going to reach out to grizzly through an email to see if I get a response.

Good gravy that thing is sweet!
  8. That is the set I have. Got the 1/8 set to match up to the Forrest blade. Do like them and feel a lot safer with them I can send you my guide to get it set up if you would like.
  9. That sounds like the set I have. It came with different width splitters that I can custom tune the amount of spread that I get.
  10. That’s a great idea. But it got picked up tonight. Don’t know if I want to turn this into a full on or even part time business. A little cash every now and then does help justify buying new tools tho.
  11. I think you are spot on. When I had my ridgid saw I could feel or hear when it was gonna kick, with the powermatic I can’t hear it bog the motor at all. It is a 5hp saw. The ridgid did have a riving knife built into the blade guard which I did use quite a bit because it helped so much with dust collection. I can’t ever really remember if that saw did kick back on me, seemed like I would get it shut down before it would happen. I did have the powermatic kick on me not to long ago, happened so fast that it absolutely scared the crap out of me. Made me go on the hunt for a riving knife for it, with none available I opted for the Mj splitter. Have to say that it works really well and I get nervous using the saw without it in place. Bad part about the splitter over the knife is that the splitter only works on 0degree cuts.
  12. Got asked by our local county courthouse to make a frame for plexiglass. Pretty quick and easy build. Used red oak for it as that is used throughout the building. Did try out the little hvlp that I got from harbor freight. Got it mostly for projects like this, easy to clean up and pretty easy to run. $30 is what I think I paid for it. Has a regulator on it and was easy to dial in. With no band saw in the shop cutting the curves with the m18 jigsaw was the route I took. That tool is insane! You would swear it has a cord. The power and cut speed is pretty amazing. Plus it has the control with the trigger that is very smooth. What do you guys think a fair price would be for this? They supplied the plexiglass. Had about 3 hours in the whole process. I was thinking $150-$200. It was a rush order and don’t think there is any chance for future work from them.

Yeah it’s a plastic mold that they put inside the wall forms. Can only be used one time. Added a little to the cost, thinking it was like $700 to have that done to the whole project. Which would be the walls for the shop as well.

I bet the local coop/farm stores would have the hook up for the good stuff. Just tell them your killing bugs in a corn field and give them a wink. They will hook ya up.
  15. Thank you! Hopefully this time it works out!
  16. Last night at around 11 I got an email from grizzly saying that a 14” replacement saw has been shipped.

The wall is concrete. The sand box is just treated 2x10s held in with stakes that are treated 2x4s the cap on the sandbox to try to hold some of the sand in is a decking board.
  18. I agree that they need regular tuning. It is amazing the difference in a well tuned bandsaw vs one that’s a little out of wack. I know for me having limited shop time it seems that I do let little things kinda slide in the shop. Just the little fine details, like never really fine tuning the legs on the table saw extension table. Or maybe if a machine has a little wobble in the legs I just never seem to take the time to adjust it. Need to get better at those things. Since I got my table saw I’ve wanted to just go through it all with a fine tooth comb and just never have taken the time to do it.

Oh in my profession I know how to kill ants here. More curious about the fire ants. Around here all you have to do is spray the mound with a pretty cheap insecticide that gives a few week residual. Usually one application is all it takes. Use the same juice on ground hornets, lady bugs and jap Beatles. Can even spray it in your house.
  20. That is good to know. For some reason spending a couple hours putting a tool together isn’t much fun to me. Would rather just plug it in and have it all fine tuned!
  21. Yeah not sure on the specs of it. Didn’t hear anything back from grizzly today. Not sure if they shipped a replacement or what is going on. Probably won’t find out till Tuesday at the earliest. @Kev when you got your 17” was there much assembly?

We get ants here. Just not fire ants. Thank god! Can’t you spray them and keep them away?
  23. With the band saw missing from the shop and finally some nice weather I decided to get a honey do chore done. When we put on the shop/garage addition our whole yard basically got ripped up. Basically started over on it. Ripped all the old landscape out last fall and reseeded the yard. Did get most of the landscaping put in earlier this spring but Courtney wanted a sandbox for the kids. The way the driveway comes off the shop is a little angled to get around one of the trees in our yard that I wanted to save, which made a tricky spot to mow. So we decided it would make a pretty good spot for the box. Had to do quite a bit of digging by had to make it somewhat level. But did get it all done in about a day. Kids are getting quite a bit of use out of it!
  24. I haven’t seen my shirt since I wore it the first time. In my house I have learned over the years to not ask about laundry. Since I don’t have to do laundry I never bring it up! Might have to go on a hunt for it ?
  25. So am not sure what exactly is going on. Can’t ever talk to the same person and their note taking isn’t the best. After being on hold fir about a half hour and talking to a guy who wasn’t sure on what’s going on he did mention that they decided on sending a new one. Not sure when it will ship. I did bring up compensation on this and was told that it’s usually in the form of a gift card. Got me thinking about seeing how much the gift card would be and getting a refund for this saw to upgrade to the 17”. Sent an email off to the service tech who I was dealing with to see where I can get.
