  1. It’s actually 8 chairs, the last one was still in the clamps when that photo was taken. Thank you very much for the kind words. Talked to the upholstery guy tonight and he said whenever I’m ready to have the seats covered he will work them in. Need to get to his shop to select a fabric to use. Talked with him about leather and he mentioned that for dining room chairs he has another material that he likes better because it doesn’t stain. He said it is like a synthetic leather. Will have to get it checked out. Was cutting some of the angled tenons tonight for the seat sides. Man can they be a challenge! With an angle on both ends it really makes a guy slow down and make sure the setup is correct.

Yeah definitely a trade secret! Have to thank @Kev for mentioning a while back to ask around for the discount codes. Yep it’s ordered as of yesterday. Good thing about it is that it didn’t take much convincing to Courtney to get it. I think at this point she has submitted to tool purchases. I think she is out smarting me somehow and this will come back to bite me?. I haven’t figured it out yet, but hey I have a planer coming! Maybe a few other things got added to the cart as well ?

Well I called in yesterday and talked to a nice lady who wouldnt give me the code. She did mention that I should use a different email address to access the code. Worked like a charm! Planer is ordered.

Good to know! Sorry you had to find out the hard way.
  5. Thanks! I also can’t wait for them to be finished! Seems like this project has been taking quite a while!
  6. Spent the last week or so gluing up the back leg assembly. Could only do a couple at a time as that is all my clamps would allow me to do without using some 6’ clamps. Need to get some pipe cut to better utilize them. Got back after cutting some tenons for the front of the chairs. These square tenons were pretty simple and quite enjoyable to do after coming off the back slat angled tenons. A little dry fit of the front legs. Will get these parts sanded and glued up in the next couple of days. Am waiting on some 1/4 dowel to show up to put a few pins in the joints. Really like that feature of the chairs as I think it will match in well with the breadboard ends on the table.
  7. Great use of scrap and an awesome way to practice some joints! Give the 3 year old some chalk, much easier to clean off than crayons ?
  8. Did the new set from Forrest hold up?
  9. I have a melamine top on my outfeed table. Absolutely love it! Super easy to clean any glue off. I used a 3/4 sheet screwed to a 3/4 sheet of mdf. Put some solid wood trim around it and left a couple inches of overhang to be able to clamp to it. Did you ever think of mounting your air compressor up high on a wall? I know that is where mine is going to be moving to. Would possibly save you enough room to add to the hand tools collection that way. ? With the melamine top I think you could do away with the craft paper roll. It is so easy to clean and durable.

Does anyone have any grizzly coupon codes? Am pretty sure im going to order the g0891
  11. Im all in on the walnut jamb.
  12. Yes from experience you have to do a really good job of sanding the area. If you do have glue residue you should be able to see it, from me playing with the ca glue I think its harder to see the residue left behind from it than say titebond
  13. Did you ever try your ca method with just wood glue without the chips? I have done it that way quite a few times with pretty good results. just another way to skin a cat
  14. That’s a bummer. I think what I’d do rather than shoot for flush is to shrink it more like 3/16 to leave a shadow line. That will also give you some play with your adhesive.
  15. I go with 280 grit 3m sandpaper. I have a hand pad that I stick it to, just makes it easier to hold on to. I will use a piece till it’s pretty worn out then use that piece off the pad folded in half to do more detail work. For me using more open grain woods like oak it works pretty well.

Seen that as well! Very tempting. I ordered some parts to put in my current one. Hopefully can get it up and going and sell it off. Might be a crappy thing to do but will be honest with the buyer.

Well I have a 735 currently. I feel like it might be a little to light of duty for my shop. Been looking some and think the grizzly g0891 might be my choice. Rikon seems to make the exact same one with grizzly being 1k less. Thoughts?
  18. Yes it will build up some on your blades, simple blade cleaner will take care of it. Where I ran into issues using pine is when sanding. Has a lot of pitch and sap in it and will clog sandpaper really fast. Have the big erasers handy if you run it through a drum sander. Another issue with it is getting it to take stain evenly. Pre conditioners help quite a bit but will make the color quite a bit lighter.
  19. Happy thanksgiving all! Am very thankful for you guys and your input! Hopefully you all can enjoy the days with your families. Celebrating the day and hour of calmness before the nieces and nephews show up!

It happened so fast that I didn’t have time to be scared. With the blade holder bending and wedging into the table it stopped the machine. At least you can find a Black Friday deal on the dishwasher! Home Depot has appliances on sale bud. Lol! I actually went in the house and said dads gonna be asking Santa for a new planer! Now to figure out which one!

After tearing into it some more, got the blade holder off. Had a scar in the cutter head that I filed off. The cutter holder is easy enough to replace. What is concerning is the hole in the frame that is right behind the cutter.

I have a spare set, the plate that holds the blade is destroyed. Haven’t tried to take it off yet so not sure what else got it. Not even sure why it happened?
  23. Nice job! Looks right at home in your living room!
