  1. Haha. Yaaaa glueing. I don’t want to think about that yet lol. I got plenty of routing to do that hopefully goes well first though. Rough milled the ash today .. now letting it sit over night and final mill tomorrow
  2. Yes, I was thinking about elongating the holes to give them some movement opportunity when the wood moves. Aprons are visual only to make it look thicker than it really it is. Apron will probably be 3-4" .. not sure how big I will make them yet.
  3. Thanks guys .. will make sure I factor in that for wood movement. Here are the legs I picked up ... going to paint them black or maybe oil rubbed bronze They are 14" H x 30" W x 2" D
  4. Well, a side project to my main project to not lose any time ... My mom requested this for her shop so we shall see how it goes. The inspiration came from this: All credit for the design: https://www.archiexpo.com/prod/pacini-cappellini/product-57238-450398.html So we shall see how this goes ? Got my dimensions figured out ... Drawing out ... can never have enough buckets to get your round corners haha! a ductape adapter always works out well Finished with the 2 leg templates ... Off to the store to buy some lumber for both projects now. Going to try out Ash for this set ... never used it before and for $2.30 BF it seems reasonable. 2 questions, for now: 1)What is easier to attach these onto the hardwood for templating? Is it double sided sticky tape, or the blue tape and super glue trick ... not sure what is easier to do and easier to clean up. 2) Anything I should to do protect the MDF from break or tearing apart etc etc? Thoughts?
  5. is this still working out great for you? Anything you would change?
  6. its finally not 100 down here in texas so we can leave the house again for some fun much needed outings too ?
  7. Thanks for the idea on the 3/4 sub straight @Chet ! As for the bottom of the ply, would you do anything with that minus just a coat or 2 of finish? Would you paint it black as well or what? I know not many people outside of woodworks would even care to look underneath lol ... just curious. As far as a gap from the apron .. are you thinking like a 32nd all the way around? or 16th?
  8. this thing is a beaut!! I bet it is going to weigh a ton though!
  9. Where that ottoman is now is where this would go. Finally after 5 years we are slowly replacing all the free handmedowns we got when we first moved in haha. was also thinking of possibly putting in a lift in part of the tabletop for some storage ... not sure though on that one
  10. Well, the wife has decided my project will be a coffee table for the living room. She likes the simplistic design/look of this one: However I told her that I would not be making something with a pallet wood look. She agreed to it finally .. So I was thinking some knotty alder or oak, and toss a subtle stain on there for a little darker of look. She likes the below colors for it ... as of now: I dont really have a winner in my mind, I think they both would look good. However, the Provincial might be too close to our floor color so it might look funny. My Main question as this is a pretty simple build for the most part ... the apron/wrapping of the wood corners (not sure what to call that) ... Will that cause issues with wood movement? Or would it not be too bad? Overall dimensions of this so far ... shes thinking 40"x40", she wants a square focal piece in there. I have already ordered the steel tube legs as well, ran me $123 on Etsy for 14"x30" pair. I will take a pic of where it would go here in a few
  11. Well, due to the extended Covid issues and being in the oil and gas industry ... I got 'the call' today. I guess good news is I will have plenty of time for projects until I find something new ? Should be posting some newly started projects soon though and will get time to work on finishing the garage.
  12. does the insta rail work fine? Just curious ... as it seems to be based on if the edge it is being placed on is already square? Just thinking through like the first cuts on the factory edge of ply or something like that where it is not always straight ...
  13. cool cant wait to hear what you have to saw about it .. I own the corded version and for clamps I use these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013UNUOEU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They work great as well and get a great lock to them
  14. woooo progress!! anyone else shocked Kev has only just milled lumber now? I would have expected 2 of these built, even with the disruptions are your build pace ? This is going to be a fun one to watch!
  15. Wow Coop!! Really sorry to hear this! Family is much more important than that so called 'debate' last night. Let us know if there is anything we can help with ... If it wasnt bad enough they both talked over each other, then you had the moderator jumping in to quite one or the other down and at times all 3 were talking and could not understand anything. I swear, I have no idea why they wont just mute the non talking persons mic. You agreed to 2 uninterrupted minutes, so why not just mute them and let the other talk. I think the main this it was lacking, on both sides, was substance. I didnt hear any real plans/initiatives ... or at least well laid out plans because whoever was talking was getting interrupted and then they got sidetracked and by the time the moderator got things under control it was time to move on to another topic. what is even crazier to me is that everyone agreed it was so bad that they are already talking about cancelling the other 2 debates between the pres candidates. This is absolutely insane to me. I know it is crazy times, but I think they need to fix the format, ask more hard hitting questions that dont leave room for vagueness. IE: Healthcare plan, tax plan, school funding plans, infrastructure plans etc etc. Force them to talk about those without interruptions for a dedicated amount of time.
  16. hah! while the glue dries ... I like it ? Although, dont care what side you are on, this political season has been terrible. The pre recorded speeches, no audience in the big acceptance speeches to make them more inviting .. just people talking by themselves ... has not been very inspiring on either side. I know theres nothing they can do to fix that, but it is something I didn't realize how much that helped the engagement of enjoyment viewing. They should have piped in crowds like they do in sporting events haha
  17. I have always worked under the assumption that if a piece needed to be replaced (glass) you would most likely need to replace the trim as well since it would probably get beat up in the removal anyways ... Also ... Curious once you get to the hinges and cutting them on the door and frame ... could you walk us through that part? I have never made a door and installed from scratch ...
  18. almost spit my drink out on that one!!!
  19. very cool! Should be fun to watch this one come along
  20. looking great!! I bet it spins in a circle too ...
  21. yep good ol texas boy! He does have some great videos out there.
  22. awesome! Glad to see this one kick off!
  23. At the rate you find those sweet deals, she will be waiting until what, next week? haha
