awesome, cant wait!

so getting ready to start thinking about finishes ... curious where yall would go with this?
I was debating with shellac or ARS on the walnut to let it pop then the super flat waterbased top coat I have from miniwax that I used on the butcherblock countertop in the last project ... or something completely different?
thoughts one way or the other?

So had a little break on the build mainly because school let out and have had all star sports for baseball/softball as well kick off and we picked up a new shop helper as well …
as far as the build goes … put dominoes in the top to connect the storage cubby shelf thing … and finally doing the last glue up for this build!! Getting close!

So first off that dewalt fan has been amazing!!
2nd a real pisser offer when you walk in the garage and see this … completely ripped the top off haha. I had already started taking the bottom part apart before I remembered to take a pic.
picked up a new 4” collection system that looks super snazzy! Hopefully it works as good as it looks! Updated with a 4” hose as well …

I forget exactly which one it is but, one of those notches lines up perfectly with the center of the bit..
Extend the bit out a little and look at it from the side and you'll know which one it is.. I suspect it's the top of the very front notch but, I don't want to lie to you and I don't have one in my hand right now.
hah! now you got me curious because I did not know about the side one that matches the middle of the bit ...

How wide, not thickness, was the board you re sawed.
I need to study up on the location of the Domino to cut the mortises in the face of a board to attach the end of another board.
ahhh sorry haha ... the piece of walnut was just a tad over 6" wide ...
After kevs help with how he did it on the ladder, I also found this too

8/4 rough
Rounding over edges the router couldn’t get to..
figuring out the cubbies …
also attached the shelf part with a couple dominoes to the desk top.
finished the work for now with a nice roundover for the arms to sit on

Short day but got the cubby and shelf built out .. next is to attach it once I get some time. Probably Monday with the way this weekend is looking.
the upside down letters (for now) are the BN logo on the first post.
made a game time decision to use a walnut shelf to help tie in everything .. thinking it’s going to be a great addition instead of all white oak

Id say that cut pretty dang nice for not being tuned up!
Will be interesting to see how good of cut you get once you do.
Ya, I am thinking of just going with a resaw king and get the best and be done with it. I will do my best alex snodgrass first with the original blade and test it out and then switch over ... I will try and have fun with that after I get this build done

Thank you! I went to their website and it appears you have to buy a whole carton. I don't think I'll be needing that many.
ah ... ya I think the pack I got was like 50 of them, been like 3 years now and still have not gone through all of them haha

have you looked into ... https://www.uline.com/BL_6754/Round-Bottom-Drum-Liners?keywords=55+gallon+trash+bags
I got some thicker ones from there before ... just cant seem to find them yet

Resawed some 8/4 walnut for the shelf part today ….
Bandsaw cut great through it .. I know walnut isn’t a major test for it but was still nice to see. Stock blade still and not fully tuned yet as I haven’t had the free time lately to get to that.
left a pretty jagged cut.. although I’m assuming it’s the blade and/or not being tuned yet. Wasn’t too worried about it because one trip over the jointer and it was nice again.all glued up

maaaaan all that walnut in there! great looking room and that ladder came out great too! I know nothing about quilt ladders, but is this just for displaying them or like a WIP holding area or what?
-
Ahhhhh yes yes now it makes sense! Thanks for that

Got some more work done on the desk today …
test fit just to check sanity again 🤣
brought the chair out too and glad I did …
my legs had about 1/2” before hitting the outer edges of the curve. Which would be fine more than likely since he’s only 6 and had bird legs. However I wanted to future proof it a tad more.
so I added a tad more of a curve and now there will be plenty of room for years to come. Especially if he wants to sit on a foot or something like me haha 😂 … also the picture makes the arc look kind of goofy because the back apron shows up in it too
hopefully a better view of the new arc. Goes from 4” to 1 3/4” dead center.
drew out the top cubbies to get a better idea of how it would look and all that. Also got an idea for the shelf part so it wasn’t a complete rectangle and will hopefully give it some depth

Yes, they're all at just over 17 degrees.. They were secured with dominos but, pocket screws would have worked as well.
17 degrees is just what worked out for this location. This angle also effects the distance between the hangers to ensure there's enough room to hang the quilts. I actually built a mock up to check my numbers on this one and changed my template a couple times because of it..
interesting ... for the 17* domino, how did you handle that?

Are the feet angles and the hanger rail angles the same? How did you end up securing the rails?
