One thing I was super glad I did in my garage, was having 110/220 outlets every 6' on the walls. Gives me plenty of options moving things around and doesnt pigeon hole me into 1 setup that I may only like for a few months or year. Maybe in a bigger shop this isnt as big of a deal since you will have plenty of space ??
Not sure on tools .. but for the dust collection, is it built out big enough to support an upgrade in the future? Not sure if hes going big already and sized for that?
Looks good to start though!

Kev when does the professional model gig kick off?
I was curious how easy it would be to reach over as well, but it didnt look too deep.

Yep.. I don't have the outside issue, just the inside one. That's why I'm considering redoing the closet to get some better noise dampening.
how much space do you have to build a new closet? you could do 2x6's and then zig zag your 2x4's so the inner studs and drywall dont touch the outer studs and drywall and there would be room to add that acoustic mineral wool in the walls as well. ... maybe?
Also, Johnny Brooks just finished up his closet ... might be able to take some ideas?

Your numbers have really got me thinking!
Your numbers after the muffler are amazing! I know this was ultimately what you were going for.
The number inside has me concerned on my project! That's a lot of work for a 4db drop in the area where I'm looking for it.
Regardless, awesome job! Thanks also for posting the results, this helps me formulate my ideas for my DC/Noise issue..
Yes, super happy with the outside dB levels! Inside, I was just happy with anything I got, wasnt expecting much. Are you trying to muffle the motor noise?

thanks Coop! yes, horizontal looks much cleaner than the vertical test fit.

Overall sooooo dang happy with this upgrade. The outside hvac unit is louder than this now which is just crazy …
Total Numbers: (decibels)
Inside Garage (about 20') - In/Out - 78 to 74
Outside at exhaust - Old/New - 112 to 85
Outside - 10' away - Old/New - 81 to 61
Outside - 30' away - Old/New - 73 to 58

Looks good! How high is it from the hearth? Picture makes it look low.
Very low and pretty sure not meeting any safety standards! About 18-20” above. Luckily they never use the fireplace because of allergies so I felt better doing it after we talked about it.

Still working on this dang garage 🤣 …
So the test one I built last summer or so finally rotted away … talking with my brother in law, we decided to go full on muffler for this beast!
the inside… (the wooden circle block is halfway down)
this is where we put the bed foam, just forgot to take a picture.. it’s tacky sprayed in there..
this stuff ..
dry fit ..
getting painted ..
the crazy part was running the CnC and then putting your ear to the hole … it was a valley of nothingness coming through it. Crazy feeling when you expected some noise …
should have decibel readings maybe tomorrow or early next week.

Here’s a flashback to relive how I cut down the the longer pieces ..
starting to glue up of the edges …
didn’t we talk about long pipe clamps? Haha would have been great …
gluing up the inner piece that the mounts will go into. Gluing 2 boards up and then going to drill my holes into them. This will just be glued to the top panel of the mantle

Now that’s hard to imagine! How did they come out?
surprisingly well ... there were a couple spots where a couple boards got wiggly even with a feather board on there , but overall was happy with how it went. Nothing big enough to effect the overall look and it was all close enough to where I can probably just roll the edges over with a screwdriver. Definitely a pain in the butt for sure working with those lengths in my garage!!

Got the 45s cut and dominoed to help support and stop sliding when taped together … somehow forgot to take pics of any of that haha oops. Just imagine 10’ boards getting cut to 45 on the tablesaw. Then imagine dominoes being cut. Lastly imagine track saw cutting 45* on the ends when it’s cut to length at 102” long.
still need to cut the 2 end pieces and then also cut the 2 support pieces and glue them together and then drill holes for the wall mounts. Finally stain and install.- 4
-
Well working on a 102” long fireplace mantle from alder that will be stained dark … going to be 6” deep and 4” tall.
going to be attached here:previous builder to install a mantle just used scrap and like 3-4 random pieces just wedged in there.
4x10’ alder MDF core core
cutting 45s
felt like a died about 4 times lugging that beast around until I got it all broken down. Haha.
I think tomorrow I am going to going to cut some dominoes into the 45s to help with alignment and stopping any movement when glueing. Then just lots of blue tape and glue to wrangle this beast together.

Jamie, I would like to upgrade from my Jet and have considered the Harvey but don’t know of anyone who has actually owned one. Sure wish you would make the leap and inform us! Which model are you eyeballing?
BW, what Harvey machine do you have?

I have called SS support twice, both times have been amazing! Sat on the phone with me for about 45 mins one time walking through the issue until we got it worked out.
I have contacted Harvey support once, also stellar in their response and speed.
PM, I have not had to deal with luckily.
