  1. Poplar can be a challenge to stain the colors in a single piece can be green, gray all the way to the color of balsa wood then over time it changes color and the stain color you think you had will no longer look like that. Now if this is something that they might want painted then poplar would be a good choice.
  2. The table looks nice and the fact that your wife is happy is all you need. The domino patch turned to good and just remember if you don't point it out with you big fat finger no one will know. ?
  3. I think that is what I would do. It is a bit of work but it is one of those things where you are glad you did it in the end. Hey you have six weeks to get it done.?
  4. It has been a challenging year for many reasons but Still have plenty to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving.
  5. Not so far but I have only used it about six times. At first I thought I had a problem with that right out of the box but it turned out to be operator error. I didn't get the quick connect tightened on the whip hose properly.
  6. Yep, you guessed it, we sacrificed the living room and stored them in there. We have a house with a family room and a living room. We spend most of our time in the family room so the living room took the hit.
  7. This is correct but in the law there are protections for certain situations to protect honest human error and technical glitches.
  8. I am guessing that it is a feature because it is a conversion kit. I would imagine that if I had purchased a whole separate gravity feed gun that valve wouldn't exist.
  9. When I originally did the cabinets I spent 6 months of days off making the cabinets and then took two weeks of vacation to tear out the old kitchen and put in the new stuff and get the kitchen operating again. You don't realize how much you use a kitchen sink until it's not there.
  10. Thanks for all the comments. It's not a project I would go looking for but I am glad we did it and I am glad it is done.
  11. 51 days but I didn't build new cabinets they are the ones built last time and still in good shape. Just new doors this time.
  12. Well the kitchen was officially finished at 6:30 pm last night. It took 51 days and mostly with out surprises but there were a couple of things that added to the excitement. One was some water damage around the sink and dishwasher but I was expecting this as we had some dishwasher problems about three years ago and this required some subfloor replacement. The other was when the counter tops were installed I had to move the plumbing around under the sink to line up with the new drain locations and the way the new garbage disposal installed. This was no big deal, I just don't like plumbing. Just because I am at the age where I just don't want to work on my hands and knees any more I hired a neighbor thats a floor installer to do the floor. This served two purposes, I didn't want to do it and he hasn't had much work during the pandemic. The guy did top notch work, even the edges against the wall that were going to be covered by base board were straight as an arrow. The other thing that we farmed out was the counter tops, just not an amateur type project for the product that we selected. Everything else we did ourselves. We went with painted cabinets, I did a review of the product that we used in the Shop Tools and Reviews forum. I made all new doors and drawer fronts, Shaker Style with Blum hinges and then in the peninsula I opened up the back side to get better use of the space and made and installed sliding doors, Hinged doors wouldn't work because of they're location. These first four pictures, with me standing in the same location to take them are before and after. Before After Before After The counter tops are DuPont Corian, it is an impermeable product so it doesn't stain or hold any kind of bacteria, mold or residue. It is a product that is approved for commercial food services. One of the cool features is if you select one of their sinks, when it is installed it is part of the counter, there is no seams or lip to gather gunk. We paid extra for a higher back splash and the paid extra for the coved back splash. You can't see any of the seams in the counter. The section with the sink they brought in, in two pieces, I watched them do the work and I still can't see without really analyzing it were the seam is. The sink and a view of the coved back splash. The new opening and doors on the peninsula. And the finished drawer bank. The first picture in this thread was the day I was installing metal slides to replace the wood I had originally done.
  13. Yes. Yes And after using the gun you have to relieve the pressure with the red and black valve on the lid or you may get sprayed with product when you unscrew the lid.
  14. I have been working on a renovation project in our kitchen (final pictures on that to follow). The cabinets in the kitchen were in great shape but needed a face lift. I didn't want to do a lot of stripping, sanding and scraping so we chose to go the color route. I did a lot of research in to paint products that that I could spray with my Fuji unit. The product I ended up using is made by Benjamin Moore. I used one of their primers that goes with the paint I chose. The Primer is called INSL-X STIX and the paint is INSL-X CABINET COAT. I stumbled across this on YouTube were a guy was doing a review not of the paint but a spray gun. But he talked about it just enough to peak my interest. It is formulated specifically for refinishing cabinets although half of my project was new wood. I probably didn't need to use the primer on my existing cabinets but I did because I wanted to make sure the paint looked the same on both the new and existing wood. I originally planned on spraying all the new doors and brushing the existing cabinets. I didn't want to have to empty the kitchen and put up barriers to spray in the house. The guys in the store recommended using a really short nap velour roller not a bush. The cabinets came out really nice this way so I opted to do the doors the same way and I think this worked out in my favor because I was able to do more doors at a time instead of spreading them out more to be able to spray them. I got it done in two batches instead of three maybe four this made the whole process faster because you go a minimum of 6 hours between coats. They really stressed this in the store because it drys to the touch in just 30 minutes but they said go the whole 6 hours. It is recommended to do two light coats as opposed to one heavy coat and it does make a difference as the first coat had a flat appearance to it and when I did the second coat I ended up with the nice satin look that I wanted. In the paint world the product is a little pricey at $60 a gallon for the primer and $65 for the cabinet coat. But the way it lays down, in my mind it was money well worth it.
  15. That is why I went with the conversion kit - so mine is one gun with two different cups. It only takes 2-3 minutes to change. Yes the gravity feed holds less but that is why I got it, I wanted it for smaller projects. It is easier to get around and inside of smaller things. The wipe hose is a little pricey but well worth it in the way that it isn't fighting you the way the heavier hose does.
  16. You have to be happy to get this going again. I guess the chairs won't be done in time for Thanksgiving. ?
  17. I have had times like this and ended up thinking about a step in a project that I surely would have screwed up if I hadn't had the extra time to think about it some in advance.
  18. That came out real nice Drew, Very well done. Cork might look better against the wood for the glass shelf.
  19. I will post a couple of before and after pictures but I am not taking a lot of pictures along the way, I just sort of have my head down trying to finish before Thanksgiving.
  20. It is starting to look like a kitchen again. I hung 19 of the cabinet doors yesterday. Installed the new microwave/exhaust hood over the stove today. I have to make 5 drawer fronts and two doors with glass, do the baseboard. I also have to cut and trim out a new opening in the peninsula and make two sliding doors for that.
