  1. I wasn’t real sure where to put this and didn’t want to interrupt the Annual Showoff in GD. Part of our bathroom addition will have a 8’11” tray ceiling. Originally the wall dividing a vanity and the toilet would extend out 4’. The wall with the circle. This would mean that it would extend out 12” into the tray ceiling and look awkward. My wife wanted the 4’ wall so as not to see the potty? I came up with the idea of a slanted wall that extends out the 4’ but tapers back 12” at the 8’ height where the tray ceiling begins. I took a pic but as there are only studs now, it’s hard to tell so I sketched a drawing of the section view and it may be as confusing. My contractor said he had never seen such but kind of liked the idea. I’m paying his salary so he kinda kisses up anyway. What do you guys think. Right now it’s only 3 ea. 2x’s and can be easily removed. My wife doesn’t care as she just wants the job finished.
  2. My daughter gave me this cigar ashtray and made me promise to use it. My wife gave me the Harvey miter bar without knowing it. It was agreed that the house remodel was going to be our Christmas to each other. Because I was under the influence of you guys the other night and ordered the Harvey, I felt guilty and gave her a check in a Christmas card. Chet, did they give you notice that yours had shipped before you received it?

That’s what Rick said, a White Christmas!
  4. Nuts and bolts, I can hold my own with. Electronics more recent than rabbit ear antennas is questionable ?

Here for ya, 24/7! I used to do my own repairs on my transistor radio!

Fat chance! I leave my iPad on 24/7 as I’m not sure which button to turn it on and off with?
  8. I’m going to wait until mine arrives before I watch your video. That would be like knowing what’s in a gift wrapped box before you open it! ?
  9. If I hadn’t stopped for a beer on my way home, I would have beat you to it as a present for my brother. I’m assuming he still uses the miter bar that came with his SS and I haven’t asked, but I would have thought it would have been more substantial. I may have to just go ahead and get the Harvey and give him my Incra. Paul, did you mention where you bought it? Great review by the way. Will you be adding a sacrificial fence?
  10. That is darn neat bud! Good job!
  11. “I’ll have what you’re having”! I forget the movie?
  12. No offense bud, but unless I read this wrong, you contradict yourself? If I were to build a unit, regardless of drawers, doors etc, I would build the carcass first, due to it’s mass. Gotta get that mother in it’s space. Then I would build the face frame and scribe the outside edges to fit the space. I can sand the edges of the ff easier than trying to sand the sides of a piece of ply to thickness. I bet I am missing something, somewhere?
  13. I have always done it this way as well until I mentioned on a project like yours and it was suggested otherwise. I have only done one other project since and it was a “makeup table” for my young niece that had drawers to the right of the knee space. I did build the face frame last on this. Chet and Kev, would you have done the same in this case? Didn’t mean to hj you Tmize.
  14. I watched their minute and half video and I can see the value. The micro adjustment on the flip stop is neat!
  15. Good idea Chet! I now feel that my calls to the councilman were counterintuitive. Probably pissed off someone and put me at the bottom of the pile.

    Welcome Basset

Hey bud! Welcome to the forum(s)!
  17. I might have told this story before? Six weeks or so after we turn the plans in for a permit and after a call to my councilman, the permit dept. called and said that the permit was ready to be picked up. The contractor went to the fifth floor as instructed and the lady handed him the paperwork and told him to take it to the clerk on the first floor. He’s thinking that’s where he pays for the permit. He takes it to the first floor and hands the papers to the clerk and she tells him thank you. He asks where his permit is and she said one more person had to review the plans and she would call when approved. He asked her that he had to drive 30 miles just to take the plans down an elevator 4 floors and she said yes and turned and walked off. 6 weeks later and another call to the councilman and we finally got the permit. Tmize, you are right about the power trip, got you by the nads! And on the structural inspection, the inspector told us he was the electrical inspector, filling in for his bud. He takes a couple of glances, says wow, and signs off on it. Can’t beat city hall!
  18. Wow, that’s pretty intense! I didn’t know that site existed.
  19. As our house was needing a new roof anyway, I had the contractor re-roof it while he was roofing the addition. They were roofing today when the inspector came out. He asked if we had a permit for the rest of the house as the building permit was only for the new addition. The roofers had to stop while their boss got a second permit. All about revenue!
  20. We got our coverup final today on the electrical and plumbing inspection is tomorrow. If all goes well, we will get sheet rock next week. Hopefully the door will make her appearance in less than a month.
  21. What’s your usual thickness if you have a choice? I realize this one was using what you had at hand.
  22. +1 I agree. Good looking enough to leave out on the counter but not so dainty where it’s “ too pretty to use”! Kev, what’s the size of this one?
  23. Your mom sounds as appreciative as my mom was. Glad you got to spend the shop time with her. You are fortunate!
