  1. I am good with the thicker bottom ... for the most part your eyes wont see it, I think?  I would assume your eyes would see the smaller inner pieces and then the 5" top and trick your mind into thinking the bottom is the same?

Either way, thats some great looking wood there though! Will look amazing!!

  3. very cool ! Cant wait to see it finished up and in use.

I was curious when clicking on this if I was coming into a Katz-Moses sharpening setup. Cool to see different ideas though and flex seal is a crazy product ... who wants to build a canoe out of a flexseal base haha

This is where I take the items that I want stored in this location and put them all on the same table.  When the actual items are in front of you, it's easier to decide how the organization of those items will actually happen.

I'll often use blue tape on a large surface to lay things out which ultimately gives you the size, configurations, and dimensions of what you need to build.  It ensures that what you want to store in a particular location will actually fit correctly.  Additionally, blue tape comes in a 3/4" wide roll so, works pretty well for identifying where the lumber pieces will actually be and identify any joinery issues that you might of missed..

Those bins are cool but, if a bunch of mismatched stuff is tossed in the same bin then, you're in the same organization boat you were before, just a smaller pile.

    Nice job with the Sketchup!

Drawing out with blue tape and their different sizes is a great idea!

for the most part, the bottom will be filled with all my different screws with different lengths.

thanks. I’m kinda liking sketchup just need to play with it more. I was using the browser version of it. Is that what you use?

I got about 5 or 6 of those little bins. The way I use them is if I’m assembling something or disassembling. I will just sit them on the bench beside as I’m working on it. To put it in a example hinges I’ll unpack them an dump the screws in one container the hinge mechanism in another an covers in another that way it’s all together. I keep one or two for when I’m refurbishing some old tools then can just pour vinegar an salt in the container an come back the next day an polish them up.

Some very good uses for these! Will definitely have to keep that in mind.

  5. for whatever reason I got the urge to try and use sketchup, no idea why, but figured why not since I am at home and my main computer is looking at me in the face and its a real slow day at work.

got the very basic drawn up in there though, which helped me figure out how to use some basic features in there and it was terrible. Still have some issues I am trying to work through though that I dont hit in old school CAD.

So I was thinking left side would be storage for my Milwaukee install drill then the bottom and maybe some of the middle row would be storage bins for screws and random things like below. Top row, who knows, but more storage for something ... Overall pretty basic, but I think it would get with storing a lot of the random small things laying around.

When I attached mine they both went on pretty naturally to end up looking like you out feed table.  I always figured they were meant to be this way to help with snipe.  And because I never get snipe I never attempted to adjust them any other way.

Wish mine came that way. One was way off and needed adjusting. So figured I would tinker with them both.

Might as well get the digital gauge as long as your ordering ?

Lol!! I was looking at that ...

got the tables installed. Quite a pain in the @$$ to get setup by myself.

Up next in the shop I am thinking 2 shelf units on the counter top ... not sure what all I should store there minus smaller things. gonna add a spot for sand paper and screws and stuff. Not sure what else I should be looking to put or store up here.

Shoe mould  is your friend in times like that hides the small gaps for stuff to hide in

ya I was thinking about that ... not sure how good shoe mold would look on a bench ... plus the walls are not flat with the shiplap, so that seems like it would be a bigger mess than I want to deal with

The drawer side on my lil practice project I did few weeks had 1/4” sides. They was a lil flimsy but with a solid bottom cut very tight to the groove. It actually was very stiff surprisingly. With a 5/8” drawer frontimage.thumb.jpg.f58bea560d6a2fc79f52647faeb2e9bf.jpg

    That’s a great looking drawer!
maybe next time I’ll try half blind dovetails

    my jig can do that

BW, is it the angle of the pic or did you make the drawer fronts the same width as the drawer, thus defeating the purpose of hiding your drawer guides?

dont look too closely at it ?

The drawer front will need to be remade haha ...

Although for now, I did install it just to make sure everything fit right and all that ... so far so good, minus the brain fart on the front
