I think you should be fine sending through the planer, just send through 1 after the other touching end to end, however you could make a sled.  Will obviously take more time using blue tape/ca or double sided tape.

This worked just fine sending 2 boards through. Also found the page in the manual ... 12” minimum. I was right at that haha.

After getting all the boards glued up for the mud room bench I had the rest of the afternoon to work on this ...

got my finger hook drawn out thanks to a gallon can

    quick cutout with a jigsaw

the round over profile ... I think it should work

glued up with 2 screws in the back side too ...

next time I think I’ll make the drawer out of one color with the face frame different haha.

here’s the drawer first put together ... don’t ask me how long it took to figure out the base goes in from the side and not the back due to the way the DTs fit ... I will lie like a dog and say i got it right the first time ?

  2. Got some work done here this morning ...

tan the glued boards through the planer one last time just to make sure both pairs were good. then glued them all together.

then started working on the template for the bench top since it’s not square ... leftover walnut scrap makes for an expensive template haha ?

I see the sustainers there. Are you using dominos in your glue up?

    6 hours ago, Chet said:

Yea I was going to ask the same thing.  I always use the Chicklet size dominos in panel glue ups for alignment.

I often use dominos in panel glue ups..  Usually the same 8 x 40s that I use for joinery..

yes I used the domino to help keep the alignment. These were the #6 dominoes

  4. I dont have a picture of where this is going yet, but its the top of an already made bench. Just need to finish it off with some walnut ..

Getting things milled down and parts glued together, plus some epoxy to fill some holes.

  5. Figured out my issue with the door ... even the though hinges said full overlay, they are actually inset hinges. Gotta love Amazons seller descriptions. Now debating on making them inset so I dont need to order more hinges at the moment.

these are what I ordered ... however looking at the pictures in there, they show inset ?

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BEOX5VQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here they are installed ... for now

Also, the wife helped with organization as well in the shop today to get a lot of things put up in the cabinets .. power cords hung op out of the way next to the sink and found a nice spot for hearing protection for me and the boy

  6. Here is the rest of the update ...

test fit .. overall went well ... minus the dang 1/16 gap on the hinge side or so ... 7/8 from edge on the Blum manual seems like it should have been 15/16 or 1” or something. Otherwise I am missing something else ?‍♂️.... I’ll get some pics of that once I reinstall them after breakfast

here the doors are getting some finish.

cant be too mad though learning lots through this and only the 2nd time I’ve actually made cabinet doors and outside the gap the other stuff came out pretty good.

  7. got some work done today and yesterday ... and test fitted the doors, however I thought I uploaded them but I guess not and my phone is downstairs so I will get those up tomorrow.

Got the drill press setup for the 35mm holes ..

While laying out the spots for my holes and marking the cabinets as well I was tightening up the double 90 6" ruler I had and the plastic piece busted off. IT was one of those harry epsteins or whatever the site is with the blemished tools. So that was annoying as I really did like it and worked great for the 2 years or so I have had it.

If my younger brother didn't have sprogletts, I'd have absolutely no idea what a pull up is. So what your saying is you put your big boy pants on stole your dads orbital and got stuck in to help him put together a kit set he brought from Wal-Mart?

    ?

I think that pretty much sums it up exactly ? haha

Hey bush wacked your a lot younger than I thought. Looks like you have a great technique with the sander.

Hah! Yep figured it was time to take the pull-up off and build a new closet ?

  10. after some troubles and a quick visit from the brother in law ... I have the DT drawer made.

The drawer is really good and pretty much without gaps, the DT are a little proud in the pic which is good so I can sand flush.

Now, what I was unsure of was does this need a face board overtop of what is there? I am assuming so to completely hide the drawer guides when looking at the front of it when pushed in. Just first time with an actual nice drawer so not sure what people normally do ?

Nope..  If we're still here, I'm taking vacation starting the 17th of August..  Going home then regardless.

is the job not going that well so they keep extending you? Or just more work than expected?

Should be an interesting Aug 16th ?

Very well done! I too vote for the walnut drawer front.

thanks! Yes, I am leaning toward walnut as well just to keep it 'simple' looking and not get too crazy

The first pour from a fresh gallon is always a little messy! If you go quick it’s only a little mess! ?

That turned out great! How does it feel to sit at? Everything you expected?

    LOL! 'a little' ?

Thanks! I am working at right now since I am back to work and it is great so far! Solid and doesnt wiggle! Nice room for the 3 computers I have on it and overall opened up the room quite a bit and doesnt feel cluttered anymore.

No wrong answer as it’s personal preference. If it were mine, I would stick with walnut but, maybe, try to find some with some crotch figure.

I will take a look around and see what I can find .. Worst case I go with what I have now, a walnut front. Then later on down the road, built a different one if I want a change.

  14. Thanks guys! Really happy so far with it! Now if I can just get some dovetail drawers made without turning too much wood into scrap, we should be good ? haha '

Also, while I was at woodcraft, I was walking through their wood section ... would something besides a walnut front be a better look? I was thinking maybe a birdseye maple front or something like that?

OR would just sticking with the solid walnut all over be better?

  15. well here it is installed and in use ... still need to build the drawer, but I am thinking I can get to that this weekend now that I will have the bushing I need to do the dovetails.

For now though, here is where it stands ..
