  1. Hey folks just wanted to follow up on this one. As stated in my first post I was mistakenly sent the metric version of the miter gauge and as of today nearly a month later it has still not been corrected. I am using the gauge and my review still stands but thought all should know the customer services has hit a bit of a road bump at least for me.
  2. Correct just 1/4" dado's half way up/ down on both pieces. By doing it this way they can be removed, reconfigured, etc
  3. For drawers like this I like to use hardboard insert's. They are cheap and easy to reconfigure or remake if things change. here is one example
  4. I like the piping detail on the bottom very nice touch
  5. Congrats Coop that's awesome!! That's got to be hard after so many years and such a closely held business but I'm sure you will find plenty to keep you busy ?
  6. So Kev's post got me thinking of what's up next for me. As many of you know the last two years of my life was spent finishing our basement and while there were many projects I look forward to making actual furniture again! So for me 2021 is going to be the year of the chair and while I don't expect to get them all done here is the list in no particular order 2 pool table spectator chairs The Michael Fortune #1 chair (MASW) Morris Chair Sculpted rocker I also have several other projects that I have on tap Redu our outdoor kitchen (This one will definitely get done so says my wife ?) Shop projects Tool cabinet Cutoff storage Clean spray room organize drawers Finally two quick basement projects BOSS mini riser for the front row of theater seats DVD storage rack in exercise room closet No way all of this gets done in 2021 but should keep me busy which is just the way I like it ?
  7. It comes in handy if you get a cutoff you need to remove or for general safety so the blade is stopped when you leave the machine. I must use mine a fair amount becuase I constantly find my self going for the brake on my 1412 ?
  8. The theory is so it can't flip out of the rail when pulled back.
  9. That would be a major thing for me as well. I have one on my 16HD and use it all the time. Kev once you get used to having it you will love it.
  10. Coop for what it's worth I got a purchase notification within minutes of ordering mine.
  11. And the problem with that is what?? I mean you are a woodworker after all ?
  12. I have a Laguna 1412 and 16HD both have been awesome machines with zero issues. I'm sure you will love it. I have actually been looking around my shop thinking the same thing I have 3 to 5 years left to work. I have wanted a Felder J/P since I saw Mel's 941 in person a few years back. I will probably go with the AD741 if I decide to pull the trigger. This year I just want a few small items and to finish up some things in my shop, like the trim I have been tripping over for 3 flippin years LOL
  13. Ok Chet your turn to do a review. I have been wanting a branding iron for a while let me know what you think of yours. Imagine my wife's surprise when I opened the empty wrapped Harvey box that read to Paul from your wonderful wife ? The kids were like wow mom you really went all out this year...I just smiled
  14. Great job Kev! Really glad you liked it. I'm always a little hesitant to give opinions on tools especially expensive ones LOL. P.s. now worries on the pics ?
  15. This was my haul, the kids done good ? I saw this cribbage board on Instagram and new I had to make one form my uncle. So looks like I will be learning to chip carve ? https://www.instagram.com/p/CBV8Xr7DMOV/
  16. Nice! I bet she will be really happy
  17. Direct from harveywoodworking.com Yes I will, 3/4" mdf like I used on the Incra
  18. Yes sir 3/4" just like the Incra just different bolt pattern. The Harvey instructions call out for the bolt and nut I believe its a #6 1/4-20
  19. As promised here is my opinion of the Harvey MG-36 Miter gauge as compared to my Incra 1000HD miter gauge. Spoiler alert for those who want to cut to the chase, I am selling my Incra ? FWIW This is the metric version because they sent the wrong one, they are replacing the rule and the micro adjust. First both are solid miter gauges and cut perfect 90s, 45s, etc right out of the box and would be solid contenders in any shop. The 1000HD can be picked up for $180 on sale I picked up the Harvey for $279 on sale, retail is $399 which is nuts for a miter gauge, in my opinion. In fact I think $279 is a crazy too but.... So why switch? I hate the damn plastic knurl nuts and micro adj on the Incra. I also like the tool less nature of the Harvey The fit and finish on both is top notch. They both weigh about the same and have similar features. The biggest differences are (other then adjusting the guide bar) the Harvey requires no tools. The Incra requires an allen wrench (supplied) to make several adjustments. The other main difference is the Incra has a ruler that will provide inches from the blade the Harvey's ruler is only for fine adjustments and not inches from the blade. Also the Incra has positive stops for pretty much every increment one could ever want in their lifetime the Harvey has positive stops at 90, 60, 45, & 22.5 Putting them together is quick and simple. The first thing you notice is the main handle. I have always felt the Incra slim handle was a bit small the larger bulb on the Harvey feels good and is a snap to tighten. Oh and did I mention no tools required on the Harvey ? Here is a shot of the miter increments. If unlimited positive stop increments are at the top of your wish list the Incra is definitely the way to go. For me having positive stopes for the main ones and the ability to go 1 degree at a time is perfect. There is a lockout (square button to the left of the knob) for the positive stop ball so that you can micro adj the angle and then lock it in with the handle on the Harvey. The flip stops are conceptually the same but IMO the Harvey is much better executed at every level. The knurl nuts on the Incra are a pain and I find the track style grip on the back also to be a bit of a pain. To micro adjust requires a tool as well. The Harvey has one knob to attach to the fence (top right) one for adjustments (left) and a lock knob (middle). The micro adjust lets you easily adjust 1/8" which I really really like. I typically use either a steel rule or a mark on my boards so for my work flow being able to micro adjust to those are important to me. To slide out the bar just turn the knurl nut on the Harvey and the allen screw on the Incra The max stock lengths are 28" on the Incra and approx 34" on the Harvey Here are close ups of the micro adjustment flips stops. On the Harvey everything is up on top and metal the Incra some are on the front and the others on the bottom of the flip stop all are plastic knurl nuts. Another nice feature of the Harvey is the angled end I've seen more then one Incra get clipped off and on Saw Stops trigger a brake. Again for me not a big deal but nice touch. For me and my work flow the Harvey is the winner pretty much hands down. While I still think its overpriced (as is all my Festool equipment) It is a solid design and works really well. Doesn't have all the stops of the Incra but the tooless nature of it is a huge plus for me. Anyone interested in a Incra 1000HD? I have one for sale $140 shipped $120 local pickup. Like new including box and a couple extra sacrificial fences ?
  20. Very nice!! I am finishing up a few myself. Leftover scraps from my bench build a few years ago and epoxy from my basement counter tops.
  21. LOL I know but $279 on sale was only $80 more than the Incra ? I am tired of the plastic knurl nuts on the Incra and I never use all the graduations either. If this one meets my needs it will be worth it if not It will go back ? More to come.
  22. Will do I'm of starting Wednesday through the 4th so should get some shop time ?
