    Cradle

Here's a few better pictures after I moved it this morning.. This one has the mattress in it.. I need to get my dusty hand prints off of this one and retake the picture but, here's a close up of how the cradle sits in the legs. And, here's the inside without the mattress in it..

Remind me and I'll send you the manufactured plans I worked from as well as my drawings and changes.. there's still a few things I'd do much differently!

The dowels for rocking the cradle are 1"

Thanks bud! I'm pretty happy with this one!

It's the pic.. I was amazed at the amount of figure in the maple! The fact that they're broken in to slats at 1 1/4" doesn't help either even though they're grain matched across the cradle. In all honesty, I was way more impressed with the maple than anything I brought home. Maybe these pics will help a little..

Forgot to post the pic of one of the corners with the plugs in.. This is post finish but, you get the idea.. All the finish is on, thanks to my wife for lending a hand! I'll post more pics later after the finish is somewhat cured..

My wife wanted me to do something special when I signed this one so, out came the wood burner to leave this message.. I covered it with a couple coats of spray lacquer.

I was able to use the template I made to locate the hole for the dowel and ensure that it would swing properly.. I epoxied these in very early this morning which allowed me this test fit. While those dowels were curing, I also installed all of the 1/4" square plugs. These were a pain in the backside because they're so tiny..

Yes, it will rock on a dowel.. I haven't added the dowel to the cradle yet. I wanted to complete the base so that I could appropriately locate that dowel position.

Had a second wind after a killer dinner with my wife! Got the base finished up and epoxied.. There was a small twist in one of the legs that showed up during the glue up. That's the reason for the extra clamp..

Calling it quits for the day! Got the base dry fit and looking fairly well! I wasn't able to get the router in there to cut the mortises so, I drilled out the bulk with a 1" Forstner bit and then chiseled out the rest of the waste. The big tenons were cut at the table saw.. Still need to round off the tops of the legs, drill the holes for the dowel, and round over the stretcher before the glue up.. This one is getting close! I spent quite a few hours today doing some final sanding on the cradle as well..

Finished up the 2 outside projects this morning so that I could focus on the cradle.. Thought I'd toss you guys the pictures.. First, the mantle.. Really just a board that they want to set on top of their existing mantle cut to their dimensions.. 3 coats of ARS only. And the deer horns.. To be honest, this is the first time I've ever done a mount and I thought they came out pretty cool.

No worries, it's all about the discussions.. When I cut the alder, I set the fence and noticed a little drift but, I think it was because I didn't flatten and create a square edge first. What started at 1 7/8" ended at a little under 3/4" each so, not too bad.
  21. I'm running a Woodpeckers rip fence so, I don't have any experience with them.. Before the rip fence, I'd use a mag switch to set up for making shim stock and it worked well.. I think I have it a few times in video but, I don't recall where off the top of my head..

That's closer to my 14" Laguna but, I think I still have a little more resaw ability. Both of my machines are also on 220 and that extra power pays off when resawing. I loved my Grizz bandsaw! I'm just setting up for my retirement..

The laguna's have a unique fence system. You can run them low profile or flip them upright for resawing. They work off a T-Track set up on the base. So, you get the best of both worlds.

Capacity is just a little over 16". I'm running a wood slicer on this one in 3/4"..

The bottom was rabbeted on the ends with some cleats attached to the cradle. The sides are on an 8.5 degree angle so, couldn't fall through anyway. The alder was about 11.5" wide but, the new band saw made short work of it.. The HW dealer missed their opportunity for an upsale! They could have sold her walnut in the proper thickness she wanted but, sold her alder instead.
