There are three on each side, decreasing in size as they move towards the front. I cut the two back ones on each side first, using the same blade height and miter bar setting, then worked my way forward.

I wasn’t sure how to cut splines for the non 90* angle without making a special jig just for this project. Then I remembered my auxiliary fence.

So based on the 135* angle, less 90* = 45*, divided by 2, the angle of the cut on the board at the arrow should be 22.5*, right?

This angle has not been cut or I would use one. All I have are dimensions. The angle at the juncture of the 8.5” and the 12” is what I need. The difference in length of the 8.5” piece is 3/8” , 8.5” on the outside edge and 8 1/8” on the inside edge of the board, if laid on it’s edge. . I need to know that angle. Hope that makes sense? Here is a full scale view. It is 3” deep and this is the front view.

For most that are smarter than me, if the face of one end of a board is 3/8” longer than the opposite face, how do I determine the angle of the cut? Is there a formula other than laying it out and close guessing? This will be a frame similar to one that holds a flag and the edges will face out so the joint needs to be pretty tight.

I think they look great as well. If you really are dead set on a chamfer or a reveal, you can trim the fronts down on all four sides and wrap the sides in a bead board that stood proud of the drawer front. More time and trouble and it would just give me more chance for error if I were doing it.

Looking great Chet! I like the banding. Couple of questions: 1) why did you decide to do away with the thru tenons on the front of the legs as in the initial design? 2) the side panels are flush with the legs. Are they set and glued into rabbets or did you rabbet the panels to fit into grooves in the legs. Hope the terminology is correct? 3) the legs are proud of the aprons. How did you perform that? I went back thru this thread and zoomed into the pics but couldn’t pick these out.

Fantastic job! The only thing I would have done differently from looking at your last pic would to shorten back the wall mounted support strips (assuming that’s what that is below the left side of the desk top) so it is not shown. Don’t mean to nitpick.

I mean a drawer under the desktop, above your lap.

A lap top drawer with a live edge front would look cool.

That’s Sweet! I like the top floating above the base. Goes good with the floating shelf.

You might also want to consider the future. We had a bedroom suite with a foot board similar to your/her design. It got to be almost impossible to change the sheets due to the height of the footboard. We recently replaced ours with a lower profile.

Thanks Bryan. I have some qtr sawn sycamore that I got from @Spanky and will use it as it will be under the patio cover and will be easier to work with. Chestnut on WTO recommend an outdoor finish and I will use it.
