  1. I thought about that. Wonder if using a water based sanding sealer prior to the pa#*t would help?
  2. I’ll holler at ya prior to getting to that point!
  3. I agree that using the fence will locate the runner in the right location, parallel to the ts fence and blade, and I did the same. However, that doesn’t locate the 90* back fence for you. Yep, you were damn lucky! 😀 i watched William’s video on the 2 cut miter sled and he mentioned the negative input he received on the 5 cut sled as being too difficult in the math. It did kind of overwhelm me but kudos to him for having a solution! I will go back and watch the 2 cut sled with greater interest.
  4. Kev, how did you initially set the back fence? With a square to the blade? So far, using playing cards instead of feeler gauges as William did, I am still a little over 1 mm off on the 5th cut on an 8” piece. This is after drilling 5 different hole adjustments.
  5. We currently have an older armoire in one of the other bedrooms that is 42” wide and has a single drawer at the bottom with wooden runners and it slides like you would think a 80 yo or so drawer would. The new one will be about the same. Is that too wide for the under mounts?
  6. Then poplar it is. I was really dreading painting maple.
  7. He has broad shoulders and a Houston hat!
  8. I thought alder but find it lowest on the hardness scale at 590. Beech, ash, birch and soft maple are all within the same hardest and price.
  9. You’re liable to loose a member and me a friend if I answer that! 😀😀
  10. My wife is wanting an armoire to take up a corner of of our recently enlarged bedroom. I find myself at her mercy in that she wants it painted as in distressed, antiqued or whatever they call it. Plans are to use 1/2” ply for the side panels, 3/4” hardwood for the frames and 3/4” hardwood for the doors and drawer fronts. It will be 72” tall and 42” wide and 20” deep. I am toying with between birch ply and maple for the hardwood or birch for both. Is there an argument for the hardwood?
  11. I met his wife and I think she keeps a pretty tight reign. She told us that she doesn’t have to pull on the chain but just rattling it gets results! 😀
  12. I struggle with proportions. Leg size (90* as I don’t have a lathe), apron, stile and rail. I have heard to make a template and use my eye to determine the sizes but for me, it’s not like tasting a beer to see if I like it. They all look the same except in extremes.
  13. Having met both Rickey and Spanky, the Ferrari ain’t gonna happen. Rickey’s too tight and Spanky wouldn’t stand for it! 😀
  14. Slated shelf as in not solid, correct? I agree with Bryan on the top drawer. If the design video has to do with proportions, I am definitely interested. Chet, putting the shelf in the middle as in half way between the floor and the bottom of the drawer? If so, that would certainly limit what could be stored on the shelf.

    Welcome Peter!

Glad to have you as a member Peter!
  16. Thanks bud. Will take you up on that offer!
  17. Is the install fairly easy? Is there a jig required?
  18. Is there a reason to use undermount as opposed to side mount drawer slides. The only two that I can think of that they are not seen and give you 1/2” wider drawers. I have never used undermount but the dresser of our new bd suite have the self close and the are pretty cool. Also a concern as a first time user is the ease or lack there of, of mounting them. These will go on an armoire that my wife wants me to build her.
  19. Gotcha. Yeah, I counter sunk my screw heads and snugged the screws down with a screw driver to prevent the expansion. Worked like a dream. And I am going to and I suspect Chet did as well, not have the 45* cut of the support piece, touching the blade but a 1/16 or so away from it, even though it will have a runner.
  20. Great video Kev! The HDPE you mentioned. Is it the stuff that commercial cutting boards are made of? I have an old 4’ x 18” cutting board from a demoed Wendy’s that I have planed flat that I use for my runners. I suspect it’s the same stuff.
  21. Thanks. Request sent. Chet is right as I can see this to be the only improvement on the best miter gauge I have owned.
  22. Got it now, thanks. Don’t know how you got from the first pic of the lid to the second, and I like the final, but I’m going to keep the first one in mind as it looks pretty cool.
  23. Chet, I think your idea of the stop block on your Multiple Boxes was a good idea but a secondary flip stop would be handy. Where did you and Kev address your requests too? Probably the only improvement that could be made to that miter bar. My best investment in a long time.
  24. I can’t access the final pic. In the first pic, that is a great design for the lid!
