pkinneb
Hey all I am finally getting around to setting up my mortiser and have a question regarding the side to side and up/ down movements. So I have it pretty much dialed in and I have sharpened the chisels and bits but the up/down and side to side motions are really really stiff, front to back is great. Any thoughts on how to loosen it up a bit? Here are some pics of the DT keyways and the gears Thanks!
Kev
I would expect the up/down to be a little stiff as that's a lot of weight on that machine. I'm assuming you've dried some dry lube and wax?
pkinneb
I agree but this seems like to much resistance. I did that just today. I will probably live with it for a bit and see if it gets better
Woodenskye (Bryan)
You may want to take a fine file, maybe there is a slight imperfection with the machining from the factory that is making them tight. Otherwise lubing may be the trick. If those options don’t work, I got nothing else.
Jamie
Is there a set screw that is used to tighten the pressure? If I’m not mistaken without looking I believe the rikon has a set screw that rubs on the dovetail. Just a thought
