All set up except for the blade! Got a couple on order. I did look to see if I could find one locally without success.. I also still have to hook up the second DC hose when the Y part gets here.

Thanks! Didn't find one on Amazon so, ordered the one you linked.. First to admit, this is new to me and I've had a bandsaw for a lot of years!

I read that in the manual as well.. When you say a "stone on a stick", is this something you ordered or something you made? I assume you just turn the saw on with a new blade and do a little shaping to the metal on the back side of the blade? Thanks!
  4. Need a short minute to rant! I needed a "Y" for the new band saw and I have Nordfab in my shop. We all know this stuff is expensive! But now they're adding a 16% surcharge to your bill in an effort to not raise their prices. Can anyone tell me what the difference is? To put this all in perspective, the 4" to 4" x 4" Y with shipping was $218.00. No clamps, no hose, just the Y. The Ys were always the expensive part but, this was ridiculous! I appreciated having this piping during the last 2 moves but, I'm thinking of tearing it all out, selling it, and paying off my mortgage!

Well, she's out of the box! I'll have to assemble and change the plug on it but, that shouldn't be a big deal. @Chet or anyone else that has this saw, have you upgraded to the Carter guides and did you notice a difference? Obviously I'm going to run the stock set up for a while, just looking to the future..

Nothing.. But, I might not be able to afford the replacement after retirement.. Just trying to limit the post retirement costs..

I ordered a few Timberwolf's for now. I typically only run 1/4" blades on the smaller saw and they tend to hold up well. Yes, 115" Kind of my thoughts as well. Why would you leave out the business part of any cutting tool you buy?

Initial reaction upon opening: Impressed! Super well packaged! Only downside is that it didn't come with a blade. I should have researched that long ago and been prepared so, my fault there. I'll also have to change the plug as it doesn't match the receptacle I had installed. I'll put the bed and stuff on it tomorrow and ensure it runs before getting rid of the packing material.

Well, go figure.. They dialed the delivery time into a 1 minute window and showed up 2 hours early...lol. Especially when it's snowing here in NW Montana..
  10. Thanks.. Yes, the graph notebooks really help!

Obviously, I'm a little more rural than others so, I've noticed "out for delivery by 8pm" a lot. If it's after 4pm, that means next day.

Oops.. Fingers going faster than the brain this morning.... It is the Bx.. Thanks..
  13. Just to show that I still do things the old fashioned way a lot! The primary use of this notebook is to help me sort through thoughts and ideas. Sometimes they go into Sketchup and sometimes I just work from them in the shop. Regardless, they come out of the book when the project is done. In hindsight, I probably should have hung on to all of them. My kids may have gotten a kick out of seeing so many of their projects at the "idea" stage..

Just starting up a thread for the new saw coming in and the old one going out. Being replaced is the Grizzly G0555. Fantastic saw that has done everything I've asked of it and more! It's going to another woodworker who lives a few hours from me and I gave him a great price on it. Showing up is the Laguna 1412. I first got to use this at @Chet's shop and really liked the saw. The problem was that it didn't do anything that my Grizz didn't do so, couldn't justify the cost. However, as I get closer to retirement, it's time for the "forever" tools to be purchased. New saw is due today between 6:00pm and 6:01pm per the delivery notification. Old saw is going out tomorrow afternoon.
  15. And to boot.... Looking over my notes this morning, I miscalculated the BF requirements for the legs.. Actually, I just forgot to add 2 of the legs...lol Total AM BF is about 180 BF, Wenge @ 20BF - New bill is $2020.00 Also, I ordered bar clamps this morning. Tired of fighting these bigger project glue ups with clamps that are too short.
  16. That's a lot of mitered corner to get perfect...lol The joinery will be the big domino. Probably 3 per rail.. Biggest ones it will shoot.. 14 x 140s. That's about 5.25 inches of beefy floating tenon!
  17. But when you get that thick, the veneer trick doesn't work. You would see that edge grain one 2 of the sides.

Latest update is tomorrow at 6pm.. Actually, I thought it was pretty funny.. The note said "Delivery appointment: 04/22/2021, between 6:00 PM and 6:01 PM:
  19. I could but, then I'd have to skin all 4 sides instead of just 2. Yes, it would be cheaper but, it would also take me longer and could be even more costly later if the bed gets damaged somehow and shows that poplar through the veneer.
  20. Yes sir. I'm not looking forward to lifting this one either!
  21. lol.. Won't be that quick but, I'd like to make short work of it! It's actually a project I don't want to do but, need to. And, for some reason, beds don't do well on YouTube so, will try to get it all into one video.
  22. As I'm waiting for the T-Track to finish up the box sled, I jumped back into this project to do a little design work and start working up the material list. The Footboard won't have the bench and will probably mimic the head board. Won't look as "rustic" and I think it will fit better in the room. My wife hasn't bought off on that yet so, subject to change 🤪 Assuming that's the case, I'll need 153BF of African Mahogany (8/4) and 20BF of Wenge to pull it off. Based on my local pricing, that's $1,775.00 just in lumber. I'll be veneering the sides of the ~ 5" x 5" legs to hide the glue lines as well. I'll also need to really nail a couple grain matches to pull off the curved top rails in the headboard and footboard. One last note.. Not sure I'm a fan of the "finials" on the tops of the original picture. They would certainly be easy enough to do but, I'm not really a fan of them. I'm sure my wife will let me know what I'm doing there.
  23. I'll guess a small crack filled with some epoxy

It's supposedly been shipped so they hit my account. Tracking shows it as arriving this week but, I'm not holding my breath!
