What I enjoy as I walk thru our home an see the pieces I’ve made I see those details an appreciate them. Even if she want everything painted?

    I think I have Courtney broke on the the every thing gets painted idea. Took years!

    To me making your own loose tenons joints. The tough part is mortiseing into the end grain is tough. I guess with a dual guide router would be the best. 

    Yeah it was a new to me design that I have never seen before. I do like the look of it though.

    Yes the mortise in the end grain of the table would be a challenge. I only have a single side guide for my router. But a fresh new bit would be getting purchased. It will be a little difficult and exciting to do!

    Courtney did say that it makes her no difference if there are breadboard ends on it or not. My thoughts are hey that would make it a lot easier, but if I’m going to sit at this table the rest of my life am I gonna be happy knowing I coulda done more?

  3. So I picked up the lumber and quite a bit extra to build a dining table for our home. This has been a topic of discussion in our house for some time, with a lot of disagreement. I wanted an oval expanding table with 2 pedestal turnings and claw feet. 

    The table I get to build is a trestle table. Am still trying to nail down the final plans, in the latest issue of popular woodworking they had plans for a table with a design I can live with. Am thinking on doing breadboard ends to change it up and to make it a little more challenging.  Wish I had a domino for this process but will make due without it.  Trying to decide on making my own loose tenons or going with traditional methods. Either way will be down in with dowels.  

    Red oak is going to be the wood of choice.  Got a pretty good deal on it $2.50 a bf. A little back story on the material.....back about 15 years ago my uncle had this tree cut up and brought it to the cabinet shop I worked at to have it kiln dried. I told him at that time that I wanted it to build a kitchen table with it.     Pretty big stack of lumber that I don’t really have the room for. Dug through the pile and found the boards for the top and other pieces. Top will be 3 boards to get the 40” that I’m looking for.     Dear Jamie,

     

    Thank you for your prompt replies.

     

    On the blade tensioner on the back of the machine, there are two longer set screws with hex nuts in place.  Loosen the hex nut on the side of the wheel that moves, and then, tighten the set screw until it just stops against the hinge.  Hold the set screw in place with the hex wrench, and snug the hex nut against the upper wheel sliding bracket.  Test the machine again for vibration.  Please let us know your findings.

     

    Tried that and the set screws were tight.

    Spare shop time is exactly the right time for these kinds of changes!  If you find yourself sitting at your computer typing on some silly forum looking for shop inspiration, take your back side out to the shop and start the drawer organization! ?

    But I don’t wanna work on shop organizers, I want to build something fun! Am working on some plans right now, it’s probably good I can’t figure out sketch up or I’d have time looking at the computer screen! Good old pencil and paper for me ?

    I agree......I have been moving things around and around in the shop ever since I got a few drawers to put things in. They change quite often when I get a minute to move them. I’m finding the more time I get in the shop I find little things to help improve the workflow.

    Kev, just out of curiosity, why make the face frame before the carcass? To me, that would be like cutting the tenon before the mortise. I too am definately not a cabinet maker. 

    I’ve always built the face frame first. Allows a little fudge room in the case especially if you are rabbiting in the bottom to the sides. Gives you a little room for error if the depth of your rabbit is shallower or deeper than intended.

    Nor am I on the scald you tongue type peppers. I prefer flavor over heat. I prefer jalapeños, hot to not terribly hot. I’ve already picked a dozen or so with also some Hatch peppers. 

    We haven’t even planted gardens here yet, little to cold. Maybe by next week can start on them.

    I go with cayennes, a few varieties..Tabasco peppers are hard to grow here, plant does really well but hard to get the peppers to ripen before frost gets them. Can get about 1/4 of the peppers to ripen most years. Last year I had some Thai hot peppers they added quite a bit of the heat I believe. Some years I’ll throw a few banana peppers in. 
     

    I’m not a fan of blow your face off hot, so no habaneros or ghost peppers for me.

    I make my own pepper sauce as well. Grow the peppers in my garden and in the fall cook them down. Every year it turns out a little different depending on the growing season. Last years was way to hot! Really had to cut it. The thing about pepper sauce is they get better with age. 2018 sauce is top notch, not to hot but just good flavor. I’d say is a cross between franks and Tabasco. I like to mess around with things like that, don’t do hardly any cooking at home heck I don’t even grill much. When it comes to hot sauce, horseradish, pickled fish and rhubarb I’m all in!

    Was going to say the same thing about the dust.  This has me tempted to put roll outs in the bottom of my miter saw cabinet.  Just makes life so much easier for getting things out.  

    If I put roll outs in the miter saw cabinet only problem i see is that Courtney will want them in the kitchen ?

    Oh I know ?. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not pulling the plug on any of my saws or other tools. Just thinking it will add to the skill set. Also I’m between projects right now and need something to pass the time. Had these in a drawer for a year or so with the intention of cleaning them up someday. 
     

    Next project lumber did get purchased today, or should say an agreement was made on it. Need to pick it up yet. 8/4 red oak, 360bf for 2.50 a bf
