Bushwacked
Well, a side project to my main project to not lose any time ... My mom requested this for her shop so we shall see how it goes. The inspiration came from this: All credit for the design: https://www.archiexpo.com/prod/pacini-cappellini/product-57238-450398.html So we shall see how this goes ? Got my dimensions figured out ... Drawing out ... can never have enough buckets to get your round corners haha! a ductape adapter always works out well Finished with the 2 leg templates ... Off to the store to buy some lumber for both projects now. Going to try out Ash for this set ... never used it before and for $2.30 BF it seems reasonable. 2 questions, for now: 1)What is easier to attach these onto the hardwood for templating? Is it double sided sticky tape, or the blue tape and super glue trick ... not sure what is easier to do and easier to clean up. 2) Anything I should to do protect the MDF from break or tearing apart etc etc? Thoughts?
Chet
Blue tape and super glue is faster and easier to clean up. Especially when it comes to the project pieces and for this you will be having a lot of them. Its even faster with the CA glue actuator spray. Just a quick coat of shellac or rattle can clear finish of any kind on the edges of you MDF templates. 3 Quote "Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for." - Epicurus

Jamie
Could oversize the template and use toggle clamps as well.

Coop
Are all of the pieces 3/4” thick? This will be fun to follow.

Not yet, but yes the plan is to bring them down to 3/4 thick at final thickness.
Coop
Will you be using the Domino to joint the pieces?

Bushwacked
After taking some time off earlier this month, I decided its time to get back at it .. Got all the parts cut out roughly ... Blue Tape trick worked like a dream!! Then to sand to get it closer to the template and less routing needed ... nothing a little 40 grit paper cant take care of ? Bushwacked
Got everything routed and cut ... Then had to come up with this crazy contraption to try and glue these things up ... overall it went really well. There are a couple gaps I need to fill due to getting a little close on the sanding or a router issue. Fully clamped up .. tried my best to keep things close to 90* it was rough!!
Bushwacked
Here is a shot of some of the ones that did not line up 100% ... probably have 5 or 6 like this out of 20. assuming glue and sanding dust from rounding the edges and rub it in there should correct it?
Kev
In the end, I don't think you're even going to see these right? I'd be tempted to just put some epoxy in them if they're not going to be seen.

I had to go back and see what the configuration was going to be.. Might be a cool detail to run each joint across the table saw and insert a shim??? Then they would all be consistent.
Coop
I know it would be an added expense and more work but I would be tempted to add an iron on veneer across the tops of all of them. Looking back at the original design, that is a bunch of veneer ($). But hey, it’s only your money?! Or, remake the bad ones? Woodenskye (Bryan)
Another option would be take a v groove bit and do a shallow pass at each point. This would be more consistent and an added little detail.

When you get them all done, clamp them together and cut the "V" groove in all of them at once with a straight edge. 1 Quote "Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for." - Epicurus
Bushwacked
going for the v groove cut today ... sanded everything yesterday and after 4 hours I was worn out haha. A lot more hand sanding that I was expecting. Will get some pics of this wonderful adventure ? Then I will start gluing up everything, but pretty sure that is going to be another slow process as I can do it half and half or anything. Pretty much have to go leg by leg due to the design. Should be interesting haha!
