That is looking awesome! How long did that take to set up on the cnc and cut?  I guess I’d also be interested in how long it took you to program the cnc.

Thanks!

took about 20 mins in Fusion 360 to draw it out and get the gcode file output. To get the machine ready to cut about 2 mins. Took 35 mins with a 1/8” bit to cut 1/4” deep. Took 2 passes …

Boy that is quicker than I thought it would be. What is holding me up on a cnc is the learning curve on the software more than anything. Also the room they take up. Would have to find a new home for the boat if I were to get one.

There are quite a few programs you can use to draw. Depending on the machines some come with their own proprietary software.

have you ever used any CAD software?

It’s been 20 years since I have. Maybe longer. I do remember writing g code in Highschool to make some chess pieces on a cnc lathe.

I would be willing to bet that software has come a long ways from that point!

Haha! Ya just a little bit of a progression from coding your own gcode 😄

you can always download the free version of fusion 360 and play around drawing and stuff on there. Took me about a couple weeks and quite a few YouTube videos to get the basics. But now it’s not too bad and I can build mostly what I need to now

Got some more work done on the desk today …

test fit just to check sanity again 🤣

brought the chair out too and glad I did …

my legs had about 1/2” before hitting the outer edges of the curve. Which would be fine more than likely since he’s only 6 and had bird legs. However I wanted to future proof it a tad more.

so I added a tad more of a curve and now there will be plenty of room for years to come. Especially if he wants to sit on a foot or something like me haha  😂 … also the picture makes the arc look kind of goofy because the back apron shows up in it too

hopefully a better view of the new arc. Goes from 4” to 1 3/4” dead center.

drew out the top cubbies to get a better idea of how it would look and all that. Also got an idea for the shelf part so it wasn’t a complete rectangle and will hopefully give it some depth

Resawed some 8/4 walnut for the shelf part today ….

Bandsaw cut great through it .. I know walnut isn’t a major test for it but was still nice to see. Stock blade still and not fully tuned yet as I haven’t had the free time lately to get to that.

left a pretty jagged cut.. although I’m assuming it’s the blade and/or not being tuned yet. Wasn’t too worried about it because one trip over the jointer and it was nice again.

all glued up

Id say that cut pretty dang nice for not being tuned up!

Will be interesting to see how good of cut you get once you do.

Ya, I am thinking of just going with a resaw king and get the best and be done with it. I will do my best alex snodgrass first with the original blade and test it out and then switch over ... I will try and have fun with that after I get this build done

Short day but got the cubby and shelf built out .. next is to attach it once I get some time. Probably Monday with the way this weekend is looking.

the upside down letters (for now) are the BN logo on the first post.

made a game time decision to use a walnut shelf to help tie in everything .. thinking it’s going to be a great addition instead of all white oak

How wide was the board that you resawed?

8/4 rough

Rounding over edges the router couldn’t get to..

How wide, not thickness,  was the board you re sawed.

I need to study up on the location of the Domino to cut the mortises in the face of a board to attach the end of another board.

ahhh sorry haha ... the piece of walnut was just a tad over 6" wide ...

After kevs help with how he did it on the ladder, I also found this too
