  1. I ended up getting my tubes from home depot ... however I did send American Green Lights an email asking for help with their products and what all I should get. I got a 14 page PDF demoing everything ... some pics of it. I just sent them a layout of my shop.

  2. I like the wood switch up, and wenge is always a nice touch...

However the new addition looks like you built a monster base, and then the top was an afterthought addition added later type of thing.

Why not thing of something more horizontal ... like a miniature version of what was there originally.

  3. thanks guys! I was super happy with how the miters came out! I was worried most the day while working with them. Also what is the deal with having a great sharp miter edge, and then hitting it on everything so its not crisp haha. Such a pain, it was like a magnet for everything in the garage to hit them. Letting this one glue up overnight and then I will do the other leg in the morning. If all goes well, after lunch I can work on finish sanding and then saturday I could finish it.

I was reading the can ... does anyone really wait, i think it was 2-3 days, after applying ARS to apply the high endurance top coat .. or any other water based top coat? I have not in the past and have not had any issues. I normally let it dry for about 12-24 hours though it seems as I put it on at night and let it settle in over night and early in the morning.

BW, get “Basic Box Making” by Doug Stowe. It has some neat boxes and Doug’s instructions are as easy to follow as Marc’s. It’s where I got my start. But don’t let that deter you! ?

I will take a look at that book and see .. if it can help me then it will be magical ?. Maybe my problem is I got them to size too quick

  5. getting my CA glue and blue tape clamping going!

Here is the bevel cut ... first time ever doing something like this, I think it turned out really well and looks decent too haha

Had to get a little creative to clamp it up and have upward pressure to help the clamps ...

miters cut ... next was going to cut a smaller bevel on the inside bottom parts to just give it some relief and not look like a big box. Not a lot, but like 1/2" or so ... thoughts?

I will enjoy watching this come together.

I write to many notes and dimensions on my work pieces trying to keep them straight, to do that on two projects at the same time would make my head explode.  Any time someone mentions two projects at once, I feel like a hand screw is being tightened on my head. ?

haha! I got everything glued up yesterday, let it dry overnight ... today will be a big day, hopefully if I dont screw up the miters ?

Camphor is where Vic's Vapor Rub comes from..  @Chet and I did a coffee table together out of it and he's 100% correct!  Clear sinuses for the entire job!  Beautiful wood thought!

ooooh that is camphor? I remember that project ? Yes, beautiful indeed ... is it not widely available?

When I have worked with sapele I can smell it all the time.  I don't think it has anything to do with how you DC is working.  I have gotten a wiff of the sapele just running the hand plane over it.  If you really want to clear the sinuses do some sanding on a slab of camphor.

good to know its just a fragrant wood ?  ... haha I bet camphor does clean up the sinuses! Never actually seen any anywhere to buy before though.

  10. fired up the DC yesterday, too busy all weekend and monday to get out there. I did not feel I was chewing the dust anymore!! Although I could smell the Sapele while I was jointing next to the DC, not sure if that was from a leak in the DC or from the jointer? Either way ... 100X better than it was for sure!

Too many projects at the same time for me...  I'll enjoy watching you do it though!

I only have 2 now at the moment, moxon and this. Minus the other 10 or so on the waiting list ?

Needed something to do while I rough milled the sapele and let it sit the rest of the day. Didnt want to waste a 73* day out in the shop, so started the moxon build as well. Then when I am waiting on the sapele to dry from the glueups tomorrow I will work some more on the moxon.

  12. This is going to be a pretty basic build, wife wanted a hall table "statement" piece next to the front door. I figured the amazing quartersawn sapele look with be a statement enough ? ... around 35x45x15ish. Going to be connected with 45* cuts, I guess that is called waterfall? All the part cuts were made to keep the grain flowing correctly for all boards.

I picked up 3 13' quartersawn sapele 8/4 boards .. nice and heavy haha.  Dont mind the 12/4 oak also hanging out on the assembly table, that is the moxon vise build going on there.

  13. I am curious what you all do for building your items ...

I normally google search around and see if anything jumps out that could work and/or be modified some to fit my needs. I also search youtube for things and save pics when I see something cool.

However, I am curious, for something purely custom and pretty close to unique as you can get, how is the thought process there? I was thinking of looking around and trying to find like a woodworking design type class to see if I could pick up any tricks to thinking outside the box and just coming up with something on my own.

Anyone else think about this or go through with it or have formal training?

    Great job @Tmize!

I have 2 bandsaws in my shop, both the Grizz.  I'll be honest in that I've never been satisfied with the DC on either one.  I'll also admit that I have them at the ends of my DC runs so, don't get the max from my DC that they really deserve!

Also, since I'm being honest, I love my Grizz saws!  Reality is that I can't legitimately justify replacing either one as they do what I ask of them.  However, as I get closer to retirement where I won't have the budget to upgrade these machines, I've been considering replacing both of them.  I was fortunate enough to use the Laguna in @Chet's shop and really liked the saw!  I'm not really sure that it did anything that my Grizz didn't but, it was definitely a nicer saw.

I'm sure I'll be on the fence for a while before pulling the trigger but, posts like this push me that direction.

So are you saying your next bandsaw would be a Laguna? Not a Minimax or Felder or something along those lines?

Buddy would you recommend me a good bandsaw for my workshop. I want someone for long lasting usage. I checked one article on Bandsaw from  google result and got to know about Delta 28-400 14 in. 1 HP. After reading its specs i think it will be good But its disadvantage is that its offer difficultity in change in speed. So is there any other option available ?

there are tons of options for you out there... but what type of budget are you working with, how big of a space do you have to put one, what will you be using the saw for mainly?

I have this hose and reel.  Goodyear Hose and Reel

I have replaced my hose a couple of times because of wear.  This is the third one I have had and is by far the best one I have owned.  It is very light but durable and pliable.  And so far it seems to be holding up better then the ones in the past.

The reel is nice but nothing that makes you go "Wow".  It does what you need it to do but the reason I got this one as apposed to their other one is this is inclosed so you don't end up with dust on the hose and inner workings of the reel.

My goodness. I had no idea these were so expensive until I started looking at them after you sent your link haha.
