    Internet

We have Comcast/Xfinity around here. About ten years ago AT&T came in and put fiber optics in the ground then bailed on the project. Comcast bought the infrastructure that AT&T had put in but they had no intention of offering it to their customers, they were just keeping anyone else from coming in and completing the fiber optic project and there by having something better to offer people over Comcast. They also got the city to amend their contract saying that as long as Comcast had the infrastructure to offer fiber optics no other company can come in and also offer it. The stink is that Comcast isn't offering it they are just sitting on it.
  2. I am just tossing this out as a very simple trestle design. I am just speaking to the base as the top in this is designed for extension wings which I don't believe she needs. We wanted a simple design but I wanted a design that would allow me to at times stretch out my legs with out hitting a cross member at floor level that you see on a lot of trestle tables. I had just finished attaching the top, hence the sawdust on the trestle and floor.
  3. I have the honor of seeing my Dad's and Kathy's Dad's flag every time I walk out of our bedroom.
  4. @Ray Martin Is that pre-finished ply you are using? If not what is your plan for finishing?

You mean because he never let me use it, yeah I know.

    Lathe Chucks

In 9th grade shop we had a duplicator but before you were allowed to use it you had to turn two legs or spindles of the same design and dimension. The shop teacher wanted to see that you had a grasp of the turning techniques before you could be lazy about it... I never used it.

    Bandsaw Safety

I am going to disagree with both of you on this. Because you guys are able to listen to music and work safely doesn't mean all people can do it. I am speaking as one that cannot do both. I will have music or a podcast on in the shop but it is set at a low volume so as to when I turn on a machine I can no longer hear the music. People have different focus levels we don't all operate the same. Working as a meat cutter for 30+ years I saw a fair amount of accidents and had one myself, fortunately most were like Jay's, no human blood or bone was sacrificed. A lot of the accidents were similar to what happened to Jay, the blade catches the bone and everything goes a spinnin' Cutting muscle and bone is a lot more unpredictable than cutting wood. Having to be so attentive to how things were being done on the bandsaw then has paid dividends in how I look at set ups in the shop today.
  8. That's not a bad idea. You could pyramid the part of the corner block that is facing you. You would end up with a feature like what is in the yellow circle. I would probably make my block so it was a little proud on the two outside edges - see my crud sketch below.
  9. I would go with Bob's idea. You could probably sell it when you are done and recoup some of your money if you wanted. Other option is to build something similar to Kev's sled but make it for a hand saw.
  10. Ray, what is you ceiling hight in the shop going to end up being?
  11. Just going to toss this out there. I have the Veritas Inset Vise from Lee Valley for years now. I originally purchased it as a way to save money but as it turns out is has fulfilled all my tail vise needs and I have never wanted or thought about replacing it.
  12. I, too like the chair. I remember the finish process you showed on the first chair and thought it was very interesting and the end result looks great. I don't have the patience to do all the hand work required on something like that so I am real impressed with people that do.
  13. Yeah, I have an old laptop that I keep around to do one thing and one thing only, but it does it really well.
  14. This is kind of the same problem I was having about 7 months back only sort of in reverse. I started having assorts of weird things happen. Features that were working when I went to different websites stopped working. I would down load pictures from my phone and the computer would say it was the wrong format, and other things of this nature. After some conversations on the Apple forum it seemed that my 12 year old computer was passed its prime. When I replaced it, all was well with the world again.
  15. There are chargers out there that does D to AAA. The one I ended up getting will do 8, AA or 8, AAA or any combination of the two, I went with that one because those are the two sizes we use.
  16. Does anyone here use rechargeable batteries? If so what brand do you like? ~Chet
  17. I think making Morgan softball bat would be a good start.
  18. I only have to push pads so they just sit on the pork chop when I am not using the machine. On another note, I use grout floats for push pads and really like them. They look like this but with a plastic handle which felt nice in my hand then the wood like pictured Grout Float
  19. There is going to be a variety pack available in the near future. Its a matter of waiting for the new packaging to arrive.
  20. No I don't block with it, each piece is 2 3/4" X 4 1/2", I use 400 also. That's one of the nice things is the 400 is probably as thick of stock as the lesser grits. I haven't had any problems even on the media cabinet which was probably the most complex finish I have ever done. It's pretty thick and stiff paper.
  21. I just saw this and thought I would pass it on. I have been using Epoch two sided sandpaper for a long time. It is rigid enough that you can get right to the inside corners of things or it keeps a crisp line when sanding a long an edge. I use more of the 400 grit than the others, mainly for sanding between finish coat's. I do use some 120 & 180 for prep work at times. The guy that owns the company is moving over seas and Marc is taking over the company. He has changed the name to Backside Sandpaper. https://backsidesandpaper.com
  22. I went to Office Depot some years back and got a cardboard box with a lid, the box has the metal rails on the top edge for the hanging file folders. By now they may be made like a rubbermaid tubs or something anyway mine is cardboard. Something like this but mine go the other direction and doesn't have all the metal accoutrements. https://www.staples.com/Snap-N-Store-Collapsible-Storage-Box-Letter-Legal/product_568546?cid=PS:GS:SBD:PLA:OS&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2eilBhCCARIsAG0Pf8vmTLboAwNd3ruFKOOm2N8p_ZA5LEtHqwJYUfyFej1iEXXStnvGZ64aAoR6EALw_wcB
  23. Sorry, just seeing this Coop. All of it.
  24. I have done the same a couple of times but I always wonder if I did the right thing because years ago a friend of my parents was having a retirement home built in Idaho. He provided an end of day beverage to the crew. One of them was in a car accident on the way home and the home owner got sued.
