  1. Looks a lot more consistent throughout, the only 1 that still looks rather small is the shaping the top section.  Maybe the picture could be reduced slightly.

The other thought would be to make an appendix.  Above, Below or Next to the picture you could put something like see Appendix Section 1 and have all the details spelled out.  This would probably help with seeing the dimensions, cause you could enlarge image slightly.

Question for the group, especially those that have ordered/bought plans in the past.

I'm working on the plans for the Trestle Table and have all my pictures with dimensions, exploded views, etc.  My question is do you prefer plans with some sort of description along the way or just plans with the dimensions?  Obviously, there's video to go with them but, I also don't mind adding some narrative to the plans either.

Just looking to make plans that people will actually use and enjoy.

I think the need for a description is based somewhat on a level of experience.  When first starting, I preferred more details, but as I gained experience I found that I didn’t need as much.

I will go back to what I was always taught when writing something.  Always write as if your audience knows nothing, provide detail, but not so much that you overwhelm or confuse.  Basically what you write can the person figure out the step, and/or did you provide the roadmap if they wanted to research on their own.

  3. Have you thought about buying a second shop cart, add a cabinet and maybe some tool holders. When turning it may still be a cluttered mess, but it wouldn’t tie up your other cart, probably easy to move.  Only negative is it may take up valuable space when not in use.

  4. I would keep the base simple, if she is more ornate with other design aspects of the space, a simple base will still look good and probably fit the space.  I would probably lean towards a trestle style.  You could probably find some 4” pre turned feet, as a secondary option to add to a simplified base.

  5. I just don’t think you have enough info to even begin the design process.  The fact that there is no cabinets and is an unfinished space whatever you design may clash once she actually finishes the space, because she seems to have champagne taste and a beer budget.

As a side note, and only my opinion, the kitchen pictured is from a house where they don’t cook or use the kitchen as a living space.  Using as a functional island is useless, unless you just need to put the takeout bags or the catering trays, because you will spill on the seating. It also looks cramped for seating adults.

  6. You may want to look into vacuum chucks.  I have used the 1 on the left and yes it holds but to me it becomes limited if you finish your projects on the lathe.  Back to vacuum chucks, you will probably need 2 based on the size of the workpiece, and air at the lathe to make them work.

  7. I look at an item like this as will it save me time, is repeatable and isn’t a hassle to set up.  Making a bunch of chairs, I could really see the benefit, making a piece of furniture like a desk, a domino is probably all you need.  As to what people say, I don’t really care, it’s my money, my project, my choice.

  8. I watched this yesterday, and he admitted the cut wasn’t smart.  In my opinion he got complacent because he successfully made the cut multiple times, even though he did slightly change the method of feeding the material into the blade.  We have all done or continued to do something risky because it worked.  What bothered me was he seemed to place some of the blame on listening to music or specifically the song.  I listen to music all the time, but I can separate the 2 and not let what’s playing influence my focus.

  9. I didn’t like the free cloud version so when I use Sketchup, I use the version on my old computer.  Now my issue with that is I really can’t pull stuff from the 3D Warehouse, but usually my use is basic.  You may want to look into Fusion 360, but since you distribute your plans not sure if you can get the free version.  Worth looking into, but is having to learn a new program worth the time and effort, I abandoned because I’m not doing that many plans.

  10. Under the lathe is a great place for storage, mobile is even better.  I’m bot following your plans for the top, you mention additional work surface but also tool storage, so is the tool storage only accessible when tilted?  In another thread about you lathe, I was going to mention a dust hood, to help with clean up while turning.

Yea, considering all option..  Looking forward to seeing what @Woodenskye (Bryan) is doing..  I could potentially attach something to the back side of the fence without creating any new holes in the base of the planer..

Mine were built into the machine, on the let’s call it the base, there was 2 cutouts in the metal that fit the profiles of the handles of the push pads.  Not something I designed.  If I had your machine, I would try to find a way to mount magnetically to the base/cabinet and have some sort of articulates above the table if you didn’t want to store below. You could drill into the cabinet instead of magnets, but I wouldn’t be happy doing that.  If I had any skills in sketch up I would draw you a picture if this wasn’t clear.
